Yesterday, Adam and I took off work so we could have a day together. We sent Nate off to daycare, and had some us-time. We went to see Ghost Rider, and snuck sandwiches in because we were late for the 1:20 start time. It was a terrifically fun movie, completely not taking itself seriously and sticking quite well to the whole comic-book ideal. It was especially terrific if you like motorcycles, a bit of magic, and cocky bad guys. We went to Applebee's for their Bruschetta burger and garlic-rosemary fries, which were to die for, and shared a brownie for dessert among the three of us. Nate was worried because it didn't have a birthday candle on it, but he ate it anyway.
On Saturday, I got my real birthday present - I went for a Discovery Flight in a Cessna single-engine airplane. Once we got off the ground, I got to fly the plane! I (mostly) landed it, too. It was terrific fun, and pretty easy to do. The complicated part comes from all of the regulations and tools and so on... so I'm thinking I'll get a Sport Pilot license. Someday soon, anyway.
Oh, and a fellow employee who is also a friend of my mom-in-law mentioned me to a co-worker of hers who plays Scottish Smallpipes. Turns out he's interested in selling them, and will let me play them to see if I'm interested.
All in all, a thoroughly bashed birthday. Thanks to everyone for the good wishes!
