Well, we outstayed our welcome

or I did, anyway. Yesterday, Adam and Nate kept getting in to these little battles of will, as Nate had clearly had enough vacation and was being distinctly uncooporative. At dinner, I had had enough of everyone pressuring him to eat, and I asked everyone to leave him alone. I probably said "Leave him alone" in a relatively annoyed voice. The rest of the meal went just as tensely, and when we got back to the house, Jacque (short for Jacquline) turned to me and said "You sit right there, young lady, we're going to have a little talk." I said "Excuse me?" and she said "You were been extremely rude to me tonight." I said "What did I say?" She told me "You told me to leave Nate alone. What gives you the right?" I said "He's my son! I think I know what works to get him to eat better than you do," so she said "How DARE you???" and "Hummph," and flounced off into the house. She went upstairs, and I didn't see her again for the rest of the evening. This morning, she barely acknowledged my existance, even though I made a point of saying "Good morning" to her several times. I felt like I was in a particularly bad TV show.
It's funny, I was only mildly upset at the time, and now, I find it amusing to think about the whole incident. It's just bizarre. By any standard I've ever heard or read, the rudest thing to do is tell someone how rude they are being.
I mean, if she had said "Can I talk to you for a minute?" or "You really hurt my feelings tonight" I'd have been quite happy to sit down and chat with her about the events of the evening, but she didn't even give me the chance, which I think ticks me off the most.
