Two things yesterday that he never did before.
1) Leaving a pharmacy he was following close behind me on the way to the car. Two steps out of the door he got lost. I kid you not. And because he was behind me I didn't notice until I was twenty feet down the sidewalk. Because some random guy was asking if he could help Steve, and Steve was saying he was looking for his wife. When he got to the car I asked him straight out if he got lost and he said yes.
I think he was looking in the bag for his candies when he lost sight of me? But Jumpin Jehosophat, I was only a few feet down the sidewalk.... A sidewalk with nearly no one else on it. And he got lost. To the point of needing someone else's help.
2) After discovering that the med that the VA didn't send in time cost $175 at the local pharmacy, we decided to drive to the Seattle VA. Steve has gone to the Seattle VA anywhere from 4 to 8 times a year for the last 5 years. And since the heart attack three months ago we've been there four times.
We're there a bit late, so the corridors are nearly empty. We head directly to the elevator. Once the elevator doors closed Steve looked at me with complete sincerity and said "I think we've been in this building before" "Yes" I said. "We were here to see your proctologist" (two weeks after he came home from the hospital) I figured proctologist would be the most memorable, without making him worry that he's apparently forgotten that we go to the Seattle VA all the time.
Nope. Not even a flash of recognition. Nothing.
