Managed to snag my original MOS (94Y, electronics repair technician), although with the influx of Army recruits due to the economy, the bonuses are pretty much gone. Still, going in with a job I actually want is the only way I would go in at this point. I almost didn't get it, as my recruiters lied to me (seeing a pattern here?) about it being available and ready & waiting for me at Lansing. However, the Army admissions guy there went way out of his way to secure a special request to get it. It took 4 hours, but he did it, so kudos to that guy.
I leave for Lansing on August 31st, and fly out to Ft Jackson (South Carolina) the next day... into a swine flu epidemic in the area. Should be fun! Assuming everything goes well, I'll be Redstone Arsenal (Alabama) for almost 9 months, getting trained in the skills I picked up at GRCC already.
I sold my car to my godmother's husband. He's going to do the repairs himself (he's a gearhead hobbyist with a garage full of tools) and use the car for it's great gas mileage. I get to use it until I leave, but he already paid for it. Work is random. The construction job has fizzled out and the IT job has very rare work tickets. My last one was a simple "it's not plugged into a network jack" problem, but hey... I don't do the original helpdesk calling, I'm just the field tech.
Getting some use out of Valve's Steam. DL'd and installed various Half-Life games and have been going through them. Too bad they didn't port Blue Shift and Opposing Force to Source, or I would have bought those.
Exercise is going well. My 2 mile run is down to 15:30 on average, with a few under 15:00. Still no 7:00 mile, but I keep coming close. My main goal is to make sure the 2nd mile is no more than 30 seconds slower than the first mile. Started jogging on non-running days just to see how it goes. Pushups are around 60 in 2 minutes, situps are around 70. That's quite good, putting me in a low "B" average for fitness. Not bad for being (relatively) fat and old.
