Commodore Hopper gave the commencement speech at my graduation in 1984. (Commodore became RADM, lower half, a year or two later). I recall the "It is easier to ask forgiveness than permission" quote, and how "we've always done it that way" as an unacceptable response. There was also a story about a clock that ran backwards to teach a lesson about not getting too used to conventional things.
