When Styles Clash

One of the things that has been a great skill in getting through school is that I am a copious note-taker. I am not sure if note-taking appeals to my kinesthetic or visual learning styles (probably both), but I find that it is absolutely necessary for me to take notes when I am in a class. Could you just record the class? Even if you didn't transcribe it all, you would at least have it available for reference, just in case.

Yes. I don't quite understand how a professor can expect people to learn something if s/he only says it -- that is, if it's not written down somewhere in the material (supplemental or primary) that the professor has offered as other resources. There are just so many ways for that information to fall through the cracks; your situation is just one example.
I do think that as you get more experience teaching and thinking about *your* teaching, you'll learn how to present to the majority. That is, I think that's the case with most grad students. After all, we all have to at least realize that the majority of the students aren't as fascinated by the material as we are, and need a little help in finding a hook! :-)
