Homeschooling through movies

Milton Gaither has an excellent blog on homeschool research. Today, I read a review of David Gilmour's book "The Film Club".

I'm incredibly intrigued. I've not been such a fan of the "unschooling" idea...and watching movies seems awfully close to that. Of course, I've got no background in film, so I doubt I could have pulled off something like this.

Gilmour, a Canadian novelist, movie critic, and media odd-jobber, here offers a memoir describing the experience of allowing his deadbeat 15 year-old son to drop out of school and live at his home rent-free on condition that father and son watch three movies of father’s choosing every week together and that son promise not to use drugs. For three years David and his son Jesse are ”the film club.”

I may have to (when I have some time) read the book. If anyone else has, I'd be curious to know what you thought.
