Just a run of the mill update...

You may remember me talking about this before, but my older child, who is not quite a teenager, has been on a massive growth spurt for the past year or so. As it went, I had to buy clothes for him at the beginning of the school year last year. By November, he'd outgrown those clothes, so I had to deck him out in a new wardrobe. By March, the November clothes didn't fit. Come summer, he'd already outgrown the March clothes.

It was getting rather ridiculuous. He apparently slowed down over the summer because he stayed the same size between June and August. That is, I didn't buy him clothes in June because he was just going to be wearing shorts, which he had plenty of. He was still the next size larger in August.

However, things have picked back up again. It's November, and like last year, he's now outgrown all of his pants.

Heavens above, he's now going to be wearing adult clothes.

At least he will next week, after pay day.

I think I need to stop feeding him.

I saw a friend on Halloween. He works at a fire station and invited me to bring my kids over. The younger one loves this because he gets to crawl all over the fire truck while we talk. We just have to make sure he doesn't push anything critical...because he's a boy, and boys love nothing more than to push buttons and hear fire trucks make noise.

Anyway, this friend is also a serious Ironman competitor in the Clydesdale division, and seeing him made me feel completely crappy for bailing on my commitment to do a tri last summer. (Of course, finishing my MS was a damn fine reason to bail.) You know how friends are...they still like you, but they give you the, "You bailed on me look," unmercilessly.

So I'm trying to get myself together. Since I brought my treadmill with me, I'm now embarking on the Sci-Fi Workout Program. I'm commiting myself to spend four evenings a week exercising. The exercise must last the duration of one episode of the sci-fi program of my choice. Right now I'm alternating between season 1 of Babylon Five and season 1 of Stargate: Atlantis. If I have my act together by next spring, maybe I'll start thinking about throwing some biking and swimming into the mix.

Do you suppose they have a waterproof DVD player?
