I feel the need to fix something.

I guess perhaps there is a bit of engineering stuck in me.

Spending a lot of time in my car, as I have lately, I've been thinking about things that would, in my opinion, be nifty additions to the driving experience:

1) Smart cruise control: You put in a max and min speed and then let the car optimize based on a particular function. I specifically thought it would be nice to optimize for gas mileage. This means that if you're sitting at the bottom or middle of the range, your car would allow you to go faster if, say, you were going down a hill. This means you'd be able to take advantage of speed imparted by the hill while still allowing the car to maintain your speed.

2) Solar panels on the top of the car: This would become more stylish with the advent of such technologies as "black silicon" (which looks an awful lot like absorber cones to me).

3) A sail: I could deploy it over the top of my trunk and make it from that "see through" mesh that kids window shades are made from. This would help with the gas mileage when there's a tail wind. Or at the very least, maybe some wind pockets around the car would be nice.

On a completely unrelated note, I've been thinking about how to fix election ads, too. I have decided that they would all be much better if they were more like this:
