The man lying on the biobed stirs a little, coughing and then moaning softly at the pain that must have caused. Phlox just left to grab a bite to eat and I consider whether I should call him back.
But he’s resting quietly again, so I wait, resolving to page Phlox if it happens again. I hesitate before moving my chair closer and wrapping his hand in mine, not wanting to disturb his rest.
Green eyes flutter open for a moment, and I hear his whisper to me. “Malcolm… so glad you’re here.”
It’s my turn to keep watch. Gladly.
