I love the way you show Scotty misses his mom, and that their relationship is gone, at least the way it used to be. I'm currently gathering ideas for Scotty and Bertha, I'm going to give my take on their relationship, it's interesting to try to see both POV.
I'd like to be able to hate her, but I can't, because basically I don't think she's a bad/evil person.
Curious to see what your fic will be like.
It is hard to put myself in her mind and her opinions, but of I write from her POV because it's easy to write her all callous, but it's more difficult to somehow make her more human, more relatable. If that makes any sense?
It's too late for these sort of explanations... :D
It's for lgbtfest, so you'll see. But I can't hate her either, generally when I disagree with someone, I try to understand their position. I'm a Tommy advocate, so I'm suffering from the lost cause disorder, I always have to be the devil's advocate!
As far as I can tell, she loves her son and has accepted him, she's got a problem with Kevin.
It's all very complicated, but by lack of back story for them both, we can make it all up. And that's where comes all the fun ;)
I do endorse the general idea that it's easier for Wally.

I have the "Bertha wants Scotty to leave Kevin after they were beaten up..." I hope they won't be too similar...
