Scotty wipes his hands on jeans. It’s the third time he has returned the door of room 205, only to walk on, and return to it. Yesterday, after their conversation, William had called Wally, who immediately wanted to join them. William had insisted that Wally would take a hotel, just in case it wouldn’t work out between Wally and Scotty.
Wally had landed last night, but Scotty had felt emotionally not ready to meet him just yet. And now, behind that door, is his father and Scotty is still doubting whether or not he wants to see Wally or not. What if he gets rejected again? What if meeting his will be a negative experience again and will bring that same pain once more?
But, he reasons with himself, his father was looking for him, not the other way around… This could only mean that Wally wants to see him, right?
“Come on, Scotty, you can do this.” He encourages himself. He rubs his face, counts to three in his head and knocks on the door.
He can hear footsteps on the other side of the door. Scotty just stops breathing. His hands clench into fists. These last few days have been too rocky. He just knows that if his father will say just one word wrong, he will explode. The door opens and suddenly after, 9 years, he’s face-to-face with his father again.
He had expected to see the man he remembered. Thin, henpecked, withdrawn, shoulders slumped, eyes filled with sadness. But he sees a man who seems comfortable in his skin, who definitely gained weight. There’s a certain authority in him, that Scotty can immediately feel. His father has changed. And for the better.
What has remained are the sad eyes. Sad eyes, that fill with tears when he sees Scotty standing there.
“You’re here.” Wally whispers, as if he cannot believe that Scotty actually showed up. Scotty can only nod. His heart is pounding, he doesn’t know what to say or do.
“I…” Wally closes his eyes and opens them again. One look can sometimes say a thousand words, and Scotty can see Wally’s pain. He can see the desire to make things right again. And Scotty opens his mouth to say something, but his throat is dry and no sounds come out. And then Wally says the only words that Scotty actually wants to hear.
“I’m sorry, son, I love you so much. I should never have let her send you away like that. She had no right to do that to you…. I’m so sorry…..” Wally looks so lost and vulnerable and all Scotty can do is just hug his father.
“It’s alright, dad. We can still fix everything…” Scotty whispers.
He can feel his father’s hands on his back. It reminds him that his father’s love was the only support or tenderness he had ever known as a child, because his mother had never loved him. If only his father would have been stronger, more independent… but it no longer matters. Now that his mother is dead, he can finally take care of his father…

“You’re kidding, right, dad?” Sarah asks. William looks at his screen, where he’s talking with his daughter over Skype. “You’re seriously considering to not only bring this Scotty to Los Angeles, but also his dad?” William can’t guess if she’s happy or upset. Surprised might be the best way to describe it.
“You know Wally better than I do. Any chance that we can help him get a job in LA?” Sarah manages to keep a straight face.
“If Wally needs our help, we can help him… Is his son really that cute? Justin and Kitty are raving about how nice and sweet he is. Mom is in 7th heaven and he’s even put a spell on Tommy.”
“I think that Kevin has finally made a very good choice. Scotty seems to be nice and polite, a hard worker, he will not take advantage of Kevin financially. He’s not very rich, but definitely not penniless either.”
“Not that rich? Too bad. I guess he hasn’t been in touch with his father for a while.”
“About 9 or 10 years. He’s 27 now, he was around 18 years old when he left. Why?”
“Just wanted the background info.” Sarah replies.
“Why don’t you come over?”
“Can’t Paige is sick with the flu and Coop as well, I think Joe is next.”
“Ah. I see. Well, in that case, you’ll meet him later on. Scotty still has a lot to do in New York.”
“But you’re sure that he’s coming to LA?”
“Yes, definitely.” William answers, not quite understanding the grin on Sarah's face.

“Dad, this is Kevin. Kevin, this is my father, Wally.” Scotty introduces Kevin.
“Nice to meet you.” Wally and Kevin speak the same words at the same time and they both laugh. Kevin immediately likes Wally. He had wondered if Scotty would come back with his heart broken again, but Scotty is all smiles and his eyes are filled with joy.
“Scotty gave me a quick explanation of what happened between you. I understand that the two of you are willing to give this a try?” Wally asks.
“Yes. You have nothing to worry about. Scotty will be in good hands. I won’t let anyone hurt him.” Kevin answers.
“Grateful to hear that.” Wally nods
“I’ve asked to consider coming to Los Angeles as well.” Scotty says.
“You’re more than welcome….” Kevin starts, but Wally stops him.
“I have to think it through first.” Wally says slowly.
He watches his son and Kevin. The looks that pass between them, tells him that there’s a deep love growing.
“You haven’t really kept up with what happened in our family, I assume?” Wally asks Scotty. Scotty shakes his head.
“I didn’t want to. I tried at first, but it was too upsetting.” Scotty speaks softly. Wally can see what he means.
“I have a lot to tell you… I think it would be a good idea if we first caught up a bit…?” Wally suggests and he begins to talk…

When Jason opens the door, he’s glad to see that it’s only Robert.
“Hi.” He greets his brother with a shy and insecure smile. Not much has remained of the Jason from several days ago. “How’s mom? I’ve been worried about her, but she won’t take my calls.”
“She’s doing good. Just still very angry.”
“And you…?”
“Right now … I have to admit that I’m not too interested in your excuses either, but... someone's got to keep an eye on you...”
“Good… Because I can’t come up with an excuse that would justify what I did and I might need someone to stop me from doing stupid things.” Jason tries to joke, but it goes flat and Robert can't laugh over it, neither can Jason himself. Robert sits down and Jason takes the chair opposite of him.
“What the hell happened to you?” Robert asks.
“I don’t know. It started with a small lie… and somehow… it just got bigger and bigger. It got easier too, with each lie I told. People were so willing to trust me… And it was so easy to use that trust.." Jason answers with a shrug.
"Of course,..." Jason continues. "... I’ve sometimes felt guilty. Especially with Kevin. I really liked him a lot. He almost made me come out, because I didn’t want us to break up, but I couldn't do it in the end and I could see his reasons for breaking up with me and I felt that I had nothing more to offer him anyway….
So, I was happy just being friends. I thought I’d make a better friend than a lover… I almost changed my mind for Scotty too. I truly considered coming out for him too, but then you and mom and showed up and .. I don't know, it felt like some warning to stay quiet... It went out of control after that.
I don't understand what possessed me to ask Rose to marry me.... I've always liked her, but I've never loved her. ... And I never wanted to hurt or lose Scotty... ” Again he shrugs.
“You could have fooled all of us.” Robert says sarcastically.
“How are Kevin and Scotty?” Jason now asks.
“Very much in love with each other. It’s really sweet to see them. I’ve met Kevin a few times over the years, but I’ve never seen him this happy before…” Robert answers.
He’s clearly rubbing salt in the wound and Jason has to swallow away the pain that comes up. He had somehow hoped that Scotty had only been angry with him, just out to hurt him. Now he can see that Scotty hadn’t been using Kevin to get back with him, as he had previously thought. He had really fallen in love with Kevin and he's Kevin’s boyfriend now…
“I’m very happy for them.” Jason says, not too convincingly.
“Jason, is it true…” Robert leans forward to Jason. “.. that you told Scotty that he was a ‘nobody’? That he didn’t have enough money …?” Jason can see that Robert isn’t very happy with this.
“He told you that?” Jason cannot believe that Scotty had somehow discussed this with Robert, of all people.
“No, of course not. He told Kevin, who told Justin, who told Kitty and then I heard it.”
“I see.”
“Well, did you?” Robert asks.
“Yes… Not my finest moment, not my kindest thing to say. And, yes, Scotty did not deserve it. He’s an amazing young man and I just…” Jason throws his hands in the air, not knowing what else to say, that could even remotely make his words sound better.
“You’re such a fool… You really have no idea what you’ve done. I was still with the Walkers when Kevin and Scotty came back from meeting up with Scotty’s father.”
“His father?” Jason is surprised by this turn of events. “I thought his father never wanted to see him again….”
“No that was his mother. His father, Wally, - nice man by the way, I’ve met him - didn’t want to lose Scotty, but with his wife was in control of their lives and their money and because it was her family’s money, there wasn’t much Wally could do.
But, this story gets better. Turns out that Bertha, Scotty’s mother, wasn’t just terrible towards her husband and son, but also her father. And her father owned a company that makes farming machines. They also deliver spare parts and offer repair-services. They are quite well spread all over America and Canada.
In fact, her father had build quite a company for himself. But he he suffered a heart-attack and he had to give control of the company to Bertha. Rather than allowing people to be innovative, creative and engaged in their work, she was rude, unforgiving and merciless and, soon enough, business started to turn bad. And her father’s health was failing as well, due to the terrible treatment he had gotten from Bertha after his heart-attack.
I don’t think that many people shed a tear when she died 5 years ago in a car crash. With her death, and her father still sick, her husband, Wally, Scotty’s father, suddenly became the person in charge of the company. And Wally didn’t only take over the company, but also the care of her father. And it all went uphill for all concerned.
Wally grew more independent, the company thrived under Wally’s calm, encouraging and interested approach and his father-in-law grew stronger every day. Wally talked with staff and with buyers. He negotiated deals. He made sure people, who had left the company because they felt treated badly by Bertha, came back.
He acquired new customers, one of them being Ojai Foods, that is how he knows Kevin's sister, Sarah Walker, and he could see the company sales go up. They are now one of the largest companies around. This meant he could provide even better care for his father-in-law. In fact, the man still had some happy times, before dying two months ago.
He left everything he owned to Wally. With Scotty back in his father’s life, this means that Scotty will most likely inherited it all and benefit from it in the meantime…." Robert has a smug little grin on his face, so Jason knows that this is not the end of the story.
And Robert watches Jason’s reaction. He doesn’t like all the lies, that his brother has told. His attempts to not take responsibility in his relationships irk Robert. But, more than anythinge else, it's the lies Jason told about their mother, that sting, so he’s not feeling very sorry for Jason.
With a grin he eventually delivers the punch-line of his story:
“You know, baby-brother, when you screw up, you do it gooooood…. because Scotty Wandell will, in the long run, be worth millions… And you chased him straight into Kevin’s arms with your foolishness.” And Robert laughs when he sees Jason’s surprise turn into horror.
