I would really like to find a them journal style (what was I thinking? I need to find a "them". Indeed) that allows a differently colored font without having to pick a color. I'd also like to see a different font used - I get tired of this font style. I need variety!
I came home from work today totally wiped. But fun was in store because there was not just one grandchild, but two grandkids waiting for me. There's nothing like hearing them squeal excitedly "GRANDMA! GRANDMA'S HOME!" and then come running for hugs....
Unfortunately within minutes the granddaughter was screaming at the grandson, and the grandson (who is a year younger) was teasing her with a wide eyed look on this face....and the husband was suddenly acting all butthurt because the granddaughter didn't want what he cooked for her (three years old, folks - she's three and finicky). I've always figured if they don't eat dinner right when it's ready, they'll be hungry later.
We had a few minutes there while my son was making his son's burrito and holding his son, that my granddaughter suddenly needed - and I mean NEEDED- to be held by me, so I picked her up for a few minutes and held her. Something I can do for a few minutes at least since she does not weigh very much- 25 pounds or so. I ended up putting her in her chair though, and making myself a burrito. I ate mine, while she kept me company and started to calm down.
Later, suddenly the GRANDSON NEEDED me to pick HIM up and hold him, but there is no way that I can. He weighs over 30 pounds, and just trying to hold him makes it hard to breath, the legs go numb, it feels like my spine is compressing....it's not good. I feel bad because I can't just heft him up and hold him. I always go sit down and have him climb onto my lap. He's the one that I was lifting 7 months ago when I tore my bicep - on my already bad arm. So no more taking chances with holding him. :(
Anyway we sat on the couch together and tried to watch a show, but everything was very loud, computer, people talking, kids were on the verge of fighting...dog was barking... it was chaos. I said let's all go in my room and lay on the bed, so we all ran (okay, I waddled, they ran LOL) to my room. We climbed on the bed, the girl on one side, the boy on the other and turned on a kid's movie from ON Demand (cable) and kicked back. I had one arm around each of them. She's holding one of my hands in her hot little hand. Things were going well. THEN........The grandson decided to lay his head on my shoulder/chest area. OH My God. The granddaughter sat up, gave him the death stare and climbed down...walked to the door, out the door, started to go down the hall. Came back and said..."I'm going home." then she walked to the living room. I gave her a few minutes...then the grandson got up, wanting a popsicle, so I got up to go get him one. She's sitting on the couch. I asked her if she wanted a popsicle and of course she did. Once every one was happily eating their popsicles I asked her if she was mad because her cousin was laying his head on me and she said, very calmly, Yes.
Wow
Gotta give her credit for honesty. It was never an issue before. Before, the only time he paid any attention to me (while daddy was still home) was WHILE she was on my lap or near me, then HE would decide he needed to be on my lap, but she always scooted over for him. Well, then I noticed that her forehead was warm. Her hands were also, I remembered. Bells are going off. Her belly was cool though, and her back. So we sat in the living room eating popsicles and watching a movie. Then she lays down......A little while later, her back and belly are hot....Her uncle says earlier that day, she suddenly told him she wanted to lay down, she was tired. She rarely wants to lay down in the middle of the day. The granddaughter is getting sick.
So Tylenol, which I grab and drop right away on the floor,
because my son never completely closes cupboards or drawers, or lids......
tylenol sticky liquid on the floor
trying to stand on one foot while nudging the dog away from licking up tylenol
which is bad for dogs....
no more paper towels.....
great
use toilet paper to clean up...
but I can't do the job, because...
I can't breath while bending over (a good reason NOT to clean sometimes...)
Thankfully, there's still some liquid left in the bottle - plenty for a few doses. I gave her some tylenol, and then we decided to all lay down in the grandson's dad's room (dad is now at work), because the boy is tired and the girl wants to watch a movie. So we all get situated, I finally figure out how to put a dvd on using an X-box and we lay down - the boy, the girl, then me in the back....
No - fever girl is hungry - so I wash some strawberries for her and we all share some strawberries while watching the movie.
She's still hungry, so I go to get her more...come back with a whole bowl full of washed, and stemmed strawberries and there's only ONE grandchild in the room. Where's the boy? Ahhh, there he is - he's gone to MY room and is laying there in the middle of the bed. I asked him what he was doing and he says " 'leep wi cranpa, no yana" Which translates to "I want to sleep with Grandpa, not Liliana". GREAT - because "yana" is spending the night with us, and now he's taking up her spot.
I figure what ever, "cranpa" will move him when he falls asleep. So "yana" and I watch a little more of the movie and she eats exactly half a strawberry (after me going back that trip to get more for her) and then she wants to sleep. She's still a little feverish, by the way....and there's both "cranpa" and the grandson- asleep. She just climbs up and lays down by her cousin...now my throat is sore, and my nose feels funny.......
I now have about a foot width of bed to work with when I want to sleep.
Maybe I'll just bunk with my son tonight!
hahahahaha
