I had to buy myself a dryer, which came to day (yes! now I can do some laundry- oh how fun...) which I used my christmas shopping money on. I also bought a table and chair set, using more of my christmas money. So, since I didn't have much left to spend on Christmas, what did I do? Of course I went to the bookstore. And bought:
A debut novel by Kelly Meding that I've had my eye on for many months.
I also bought
althought this is not the current cover anymore. It's been changed, but I uploaded this cover a long time ago.
This is the cover that I have, although Powell's has it listed as the UK version. I bought this one at Borders, the Borders in the Northern California city that I live in. I'm not sure which version I prefer. I think I like the first one better, because of the color. All the men behind her look a little sinister though, don't they? On the second cover, there are only the two men behind her. Less threatening seeming, especially since the one on the left is representative of her friend Graves. Lili St. Crow and her alto ego, Lilith Saintcrow, is one of my favorite authors.
For one of my sons (because he went with me to the store) I bought Invisible Monsters
by Chuck Palahniuk. I think I would like to read this one when he's (the son) done with it. A beauty gets into a wreck and has to go through numerous plastic surgeries. She has a hard time after her wreck, having had her face horrifically disfigured. Apparently along the way, she befriends a queen (male) who shows her the beauty of self-acceptance. or something like that. My son read the blurb to me, I might have a little of that wrong.
A friend of mine loaned me a book called Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman. I read the first chapter, then got the feeling that it was a sequel, so I looked and sure enough, the first book is called American Gods. (I think) So I put it aside and recently bought American Gods.
I hope I got it right. Either way, the other two Neil Gaiman books that I already owned/read (well, two and a half if you count Good Omens with Terry Pratchett) were pretty good, so I figure this will be also.
I started reading Betrayals today, while waiting for the dryer to be delivered and surfing the web; Good so far, glad I have it to read. I usually like all of Lilith St Crow's books. I also have, (bought a long time ago, but not read yet) a book by her called Steelflower. Steelflower is a fantasy book, complete with elvish people and written in third person. Very different from her norm, so I haven't really got into it yet. I do plan on reading it soon though. As part of my Countdown 2010 challenge.
