I was feeling very down this weekend (a combination of pain and family shit) so my husband surprised me with a gift card to borders. I didn't even feel like getting dressed to go to the store, but he had also given one of my (almost)daughter-in-laws a gift card for her birthday. She asked me to go with her, so after whining (yeah, I whined, like a little-bitch-ass) I slowly got up, freshened up, piled my hair on my head (hey, I was in no shape to even brush my hair, I couldn't even hold the brush!) and forced myself to go to the bookstore. There is something seriously wrong with me when I have to force myself to go to a BOOKSTORE. I could be sick, and still want to go. Anyway, I'm glad I finally went, because Doubleblind was there-waiting for me to buy it. I love Ann Aguirre books.
I also found this book, by Amanda Downum called The Drowning City. It's not my usual book choice, but the cover is pretty kick-ass, right?
And for $3.99 I found a copy of The Jane Austen Book Club, which most will probably remember as the the movie of the same name. I never realized it was a book, until I saw it in the bargain section where I was sitting in a chair being a lump.
It's written by Karen Joy Fowler. I read the first chapter while I was waiting for my d-i-l, and it's pretty good.
I put aside all other books (even Rosemary and Rue, which is very interesting) to read Doubleblind, because that's what needs to be done when a new book by Ann Aguirre comes out...or Devon Monk....or Ilona Andrews....or Patricia Briggs......etc.
I also found Terry Pratchett's newest book, Unseen Academicals, but the price was way too much. It's almost $30.00. I can't get it unless I find one of those 30% (or better yet 40%) off coupons that Borders sends out sometimes. Besides, I think I like the UK cover better.
UK cover vs. US cover
I like the UK cover much better. Even better, the price is only $24.99 from the Book Depository with NO shipping charges. FREE shipping. It's almost enough of an incentive to order it from the Book Depository after payday.
A lot of the time my husband is cranky, or way too touchy (doesn't get when I'm joking with him) or thinks I'm insulting him when I'm just talking....Okay he's hell-a-hard to live with, but he has wonderfully nice moments. He cares a lot for our kids and dogs, and all the porcupine exterior hides a very soft heart (or at least soft for me).
