book stuff - and pajamas

I've started reading Unfinished Desires by Gail Godwin, which I received from a book giveaway on Goodreads.  I think my copy is an ARC.  (it's now in the other room, where my esposo is sleeping, so I don't want to wake him up.)

I read a book a very, very, very long ago by Gail Godwin.  I think it was a mom and two daughters, or A Mother and Two Daughters.  Something like that.  I remember that she is a very good writer.  It's not the type of book I usually go for, but so far, it's reading pretty smoothly for me.

I'm still feeling guilty (in a literary, library tech sort of way) that Crome Yellow bored me so badly.  It's a classic, by a very respected author, but it's not to my taste.  I'm glad this current book I'm reading is.  I'm obligated to read it and review it on Amazon and Good reads, which I don't mind doing.

In the mean time I'm trying to remember all the books that I was so interested in buying over the summer so I can make a HUGE, Grandiose shopping list. For October 1st, or September 30.  I'm thinking that because I've been waiting so long and I'm so excited about it, my paycheck will probably be smaller than I anticipate, and I'll have to wait ANOTHER month.  cross your fingers, and I'll cross mine!  Even if it is smaller, at least I can pick up Eternal Kiss and maybe a couple of others.  We'll just have to see.

Ah well.  Today was another in a week full of hot, hot weather.  I think it's going to be hot all next week.  A man at the store today was going on and on about how hot it was going to be next week. "Today's nothing" he said.  It was 102 degrees at 12:30 p.m.  "This is just a primer for next week!" He cheerfully bellowed out in the store.  I wanted to STAB him.  Good thing I outgrew my knife carrying stage!  It's hot, yes.  Don't happily talk about how much hotter it's going to get when you are standing near a middle-aged woman.  You never know when your are going to set one off, and she might go all menopausal on your dumb ass!  Just. Shut. The. F---.  Up.  Okay---deep breathe in, let it out slow.....  I was so irritated.  Then in the next minute the counter guy (from the middle east complete with a turban) smiles at me and asks how I am.  I groan out "'s hot".  He smiles and says, " I love this weather". Suddenly I felt like laughing (psycho!) .  I did laugh and told him, "of course you do.  It figures!"  He laughed and told me to have a good day, and I laughed and said, "sure, and you just go on enjoying your hot weather!".  No one died.  All is good.

I'm pretty sure that we'll have weather like this for another few weeks because that's what we get around here- "Indian summer".  I can take it as long as it cools down every evening, and I don't come into contact with CHEERFUL WEATHER-DOOMSAYERS.

It was so hot today, that when I was getting ready for work I decided not to wear my jeans, not even my jean shorts.  DON'T WORRY.  I did wear something on my bottom half.  I put on my "lounge-around-the-house" pants.  They are those thin material pants, usually with a pattern (like huge blue butterflys, or roses) that you can buy in the pajama section of Target.  They fit me like loose capri's-or longer (I'm short)  That is what I wore today, with a tank top.  I've done this before a few times during heat waves, but this is the first time that a little kid has actually noticed.  This boy (a second grader) came up to me with a shy smile and asked me if I was wearing my pajamas.  I answered "you bet! I'm too hot for jeans today".  A little later another, older child came up to me and asked if I was really wearing pajamas.  "Of course!" I answered.  I wonder if they think I just rolled out of bed, put on my sandals and came to work. I've been tempted, but...  Really, they were a fresh pair, and I went for comfort over style today (I usually do).  So when I came home, I changed out of my pajamas into my other pajamas.  Ahh, what a life!  : )

books, hot hot hot
