We are into our "Indian Summer". People forget every single year, but for as long as I can remember, we have had fairly mild weather every June and July - just an occasional 3-5 day heat wave. It isn't til August that things start really heating up, and in September we always have very hot weather. The days are usually in the upper 80's, or low 90's.
Today it felt like over 100 degrees. My mouth was so dry from the heat, and the minute I sweated, it dried off. Just walking to my car and driving from one school to the next school I got a mild sunburn on my neck, and my left shoulder is a bit darker than my right. The contrast between colors on my exposed skin and under my bra strap is amazing. I'm like a reddish brown on my shoulders and an ivory under my bra strap. I'm probably going to get skin cancer. I never remember to put on sunscreen. My face might have gotten a bit darker just from today also, and I wasn't outside very much at all today. If this year goes like the previous years, we will have a few more weeks of warm weather, then it will start to cool off. We don't have as dramatic season changes as the east coast, we tend to just kind of slide in from one season to another. Sometimes we get warm weather in the winter, and we get summer weather in the spring, then spring weather in the summer, and summer weather in the fall.....we're all mixed up!
Supposedly, it's going to rain this Sunday and Monday. Hard to imagine that now. Going from 100 degree weather to rain. In the space of two days. We'll see. I do enjoy the sound of rain. I don't enjoy running an afterschool program while it's raining. Those poor kids need to get outside and PLAY! They are working on academics for over 8 hours when they attend the afterschool program. That would be overtime for you and me. For them, it's "enrichment". Not very fair. Even in this heat today, a lot of kids wanted to play soccer. Kids are great. They'll play in anything, any type of weather.
It's hard for me to handle the heat - being overweight does not help at all- but at least we have cool evenings. It's rare that we have hot/warm evenings. Every once in a while though - boy it will be 80 degrees at 10 p.m. That just pisses me off. I think it should always be cool in the evenings. But mother nature does not listen to me- never did, never will. Old bitch!
edited to add- i've just heard Three thunder - thunder whats? what are they called, just three thunders?. What ever. I've just hear Thunder three times in the space of 3 minutes. Weird. The last one made the house vibrate a little. TRIPPY! - haven't seen any lightening though. Of course I'm inside. (going to the door now...)
