Borders and Books and poopy diapers

 Street Magic  by Caitlin Kittredge.
Since June 2, I have been trying to get this book.  I went to Borders in my city on the release day to buy it.  Not there.  I asked a worker to look it up.  Apparently the shipment wasn't in yet, but would be coming in two days.  I went back June 9, still not there.  Oh well.  Had someone look it up again.  First it was sold out, then the clerk said, oh wait it hasn't even arrived yet.  Shoule be here within the week.  So I waited until June 13th to go back.  This is a trip across the city.  Okay, it's not that far, it's about two miles, but I don't like to drive anymore, or leave the house, or get dressed......never mind.  I went on Saturday, made a day (hour) of it with my daughter and granddaughter.  It STILL wasn't there.  I explained to the clerk how many times it was supposed to be on the way.  She explained that sometimes books were stuck in a box in the back, buried, and instead of searching it out, people would say the shipment hadn't arrived yet.  She suggested ordering it online, paying for it then, and having it shipped to the store.  That way, the shipping cost is not charged to the customer.  Hmmm.  Sounded like a plan.  So I ordered it, paid for it.  Since we were there at the bookstore, I had $20 to spend, and my granddaughter was being well behaved we looked around for a little book for her and of course those special little chocolates that we buy everytime we go to Borders.  Lindors.

Today  I get the call - THE CALL. The book was in.  I asked by husband for $5, just because, and armed with that, along with the knowledge that I had $5 in BorderBucks, packed up my granddaughter and hit the road for some Street Magic!  We got there, and within 5 minutes we found a book on clearance for both Elliott and LIliana along with a book for me; and within 5 minutes Liliana pooped in her diaper.  I had a choice.  Drop everything and go home, or go to the register with the books we had already picked out.  We hurried to the cash register since no one else was in line.  ( hey, her diaper was already poopy, and there's the whole issue about not wasting gasoline, we live a ways from the store )But there was a snag.  The clerk couldn't find the package for me.  Looked around and around.  I found my receipt, then we both noticed that the other person had used my middle name for my last name.  AT LAST!  Success.  Then I kept dropping my change.  I apologized to the clerk, told him we were having diaper issues and we were trying to hurry, sorry about the smell. He was very nice about it.  That is one of the perks of being a middleaged women with a lot of grey hair.  Younger people don't even show when they might be put off, there is pretty much no snottiness from clerks.  (I find that most clerks, workers, etc are pretty pleasant, but I have had incidents with the occasional rude worker, none though since I cut off all my colored hair.)  So we paid, and hurried to the car.  Poor baby didn't want to sit down in her diaper, but we didn't have any choice.  If I had even some wipes, I would have cleaned her off, and sat her in only her pants, taking the chance of her peeing in the carseat, but when I take her we travel light.  Not any more, though.  Now there is a diaper in the trunk, and a small package of wipes.  Just in case, I learn my lessons!

The other book I bought wasn't due to be released until July 1st.  {must be a cosmic consolation for having such a hard time buying Street Magic!} The book I was able to buy early was Prey, byRachel Vincent.  Lucky, Lucky!

I was going to finish reading The Demon's Librarian, then start Street Magic.  However, my dad has been waiting for Prey to come out, and he won't borrow (take, I never get them back! *grin*) any of the books until I have read them.  He's always a gentleman. So I will pause in the Demon's Librarian and read Prey. Earlier this year, I had written about my father and how he never, ever, ever read fiction- any fiction- until a couple years ago, when he was at my house for awhile, recuperating from surgery.  That was just around the time, maybe a little later that Stray came out.  He was drawn by the cover, and actually started reading it.  He has read each book in the series, as I buy them and finish them.  He also has never given them back.  I think he likes to look at the cover model!  It's cute, because he is going to be 71 and just the other day was asking me about the coming book.

my dad, prey, borders books, books, grandchildren book shopping, street magic
