this saturday is free comic book day, so that would be the optimal time to scope out the local stores. in norman, it'd be a good idea to go to the atomic pop, as one of the three guys who works at speeding bullet (who ends up being there almost every time we go down) is super creepy (even though they do have a superior collection of trade paperbacks). The new world comics in del city (or midwest city, i forget) is also pretty bad, but that's more because it seems like a gaming shop with comics tacked on as an afterthought. the Documentary film class sounds pretty cool. what is the coolest one you've watched for the class?
There is such thing as free comic book day??? Is it everwhere? You must tell me more!
The Doc class has been amazing and I don't even know where to begin with the coolest film I've seen in there...the only one that I had already seen was Bowling for Columbine. Um, both The Salesman and Gimme Shelter by the Maysles were excellent, Regret To Inform by Barbara Sonneborn was probably the most beautifully done doc I've seen, Mr. Death by Erroll Morris was very interesting (I'm dying to see Thin Blue Line now), and the creepiest film I've watched was Triumph of the Will by Leni Reifenstahl which was a propaganda film for Hitler and the Nazis. It was eerily and uncomfortably beautiful. And that is just to name some of them... So. If you ever want to come wath docs just let me know!
How have you been? I haven't talked to you in ages.
yup. i can't think of a comic book store that doesn't participate. Every year, for the first saturday in May, the comic book companies put out 3 or 4 special books that the stores give away from free, and generally the stores run pretty good discounts and specials. so it's definitely worth your wild to go. I think the plan is for Colin, Lisa, Aubrie, and I to go to a couple stores this year, including the ones in norman. So we can give you a call on the way down, if you want. that sounds like a really interesting line up. I'm down for watching documentaries anytime. just let me know when and what's playing and i'm there.
yeah, it's been a while. I've been doing pretty good. just working at UPS trying to figure out what the next step is. what are you up to now? and how are things going?
Wow. Yeah, you should definitely give me a call. I'm just going to be at the house working on papers on Saturday. Do you still have my number?
My finals will be over in about 2 weeks and we will have to get a plan together for a doc night then. It will be super rad.
I've been doing well. Pretty boring. Lately I've just been doing the work/school/house thing and going out on the weekends. I've been trying to think of new things that I want to do or old things that I miss to entertain myself...hence the need for comics, a doc night, and a failed attempt at cooking.
if you haven't changed your number since the last time i talked to you, i still have it. i'm not sure what exactly the plan is for saturday, but when i figure out when we are coming down to norman i'll give you a call.
I thought it was really long and could have been edited down a bit, but I didn't think it was boring... Maybe it was the setting I watched it in. I was in the school library watching it with headphones on, fearful that someone would see all the swastikas and arian boys on the screen over my shoulder and stab me... It was pretty intense.
