Back to the DE News Journal...

Another letter to the editor caught my attention in the Delaware News Journal:

Swimmers should be warned about rip tides

I applaud the installation of rumble strips along Del. 1 to prevent injuries or deaths along the coastal highway. I would like to extend efforts with another proposition.

It has bothered me for a long time to learn of a drowning death because of a lack of knowledge of rip tides. Installing educational signage on our beaches could potentially save lives every summer.

Gene Harrison, Millsboro

Gene Harrison has not been to Rehoboth Beach anytime within the past five years. He would have seen the LARGE signage around Rehoboth proclaiming the disaster of a rip tide and how to avoid perishing in one. I seem to remember similar signs at Indian River Inlet as well. Way to go Gene! Try researching what you are propositioning next time by visiting the beach.

After searching "Rehoboth beach rip tides" for a picture of the signage, I can not find it. So next time I go to Rehoboth, I will take a camera and post a picture of the signage here!
