Child Gold Workers

This is highly depressing, but very informative. Forget offshore banking for the elite, Swiss companies and banks launder gold. Really though what alternatives do these kids have..yet at 4 years old? And working with raw mercury?

Gold mining is a huge problem where I was working in South America. For economic reasons, it's hard to stop, as people continue to mine illegally because there is little other choice for making some money. The choice WWF made to try and deal with the situation was to help people realize the harmful effects of mercury and create solutions on how to deal with it safely, but that's still just dealing with a symptom rather than solving the problem.

At least the mining in the Guinans is done by adults. It would break my heart to see kids involved with that life. Even without the mercury, it's a hard life.
