Today I slammed my hand through a plate glass door. The fact that I am typing this is proof that I was not injured. It was just one damaged door, a superficial wound and a BIG bang.
It was kind of amazing and only now is it dawning on me that I could have been hurt, could have sustained nerve damage to my hands, which are my most favorite feature of being a hominid.
My first thought was, You are in a world of trouble for this. But, in fact, my boss was very nice about it and mostly just thankful that he will not have to pay worker's compensation. He is, as a profession, an expert witness regarding worker's compensation, so he knows to the penny what the costs are.
My hair and sweater were covered in teensy bits of glass and the shirt I was wearing under the sweater is one of my home-made "COPS LIE!" tshirts, so that was also amusing, outing myself as a dirty radical. Not that anyone cares. I seriously doubt they care one way or another.
Still, good times! Two years ago I slipped on the ice and sprained my ankle something bad. Ever since then I've been timid regarding my own personal safety. So, in a way, this is a good thing. It confirms my own sense of ruggedness, which has been somewhat in question for awhile now. It doesn't necessarily make any sense, but I'll take it anyways.
Also, just to reconfirm, Yay for not having nerve damage! I'm feeling pretty good about it.
