I should probably find it amusing that people keep asking me where John is, why he isn’t here at the party, and it WAS amusing, but after the first 50 times, it’s just fucking annoying.

It's because it's Cody. Everybody else (except John himself - but that wouldn't make sense) would have had a drink in his face by now. Even Ted. And Hunter. Or Vince. But Randal's got a soft spot with the kid with the polka dots.
