She walks into the deserted diner, her SIG tightly held in her hand. She walks past two dead men, sees the shots of a professional on their bodies.
The smell of death is strong and suffocating in the building, and that’s when she realizes that she won’t find Jenny alive.
She knows even before she sees her lifeless body, before she stares at her friend’s face reflected in a puddle of her crimson blood.
Tony walks over at her beckoning, and she can hear his sharp intake of breath. Can imagine the sadness creeping up his face as he takes into the sight before them. Can feel the same guilt he is feeling.
He crouches down and seeks a pulse on the side of their Director’s neck. She knows it’s useless. She imagines the sickening coolness of Jenny’s skin under his fingers.
Suddenly, Jenny’s phone starts to ring. The sound almost deafening in the silence around them.
Tony picks it up and glances at the screen. Showing it to her with a broken look on his face.
Gibbs.
And for the first time in years, there’s nothing Ziva can do to stop the silent tears from falling down her face.
