I must have had a dream that I updated my livejournal, dividing it into three parts (for an entry) with lj cuts. I only remember what the first cut was about, my new job, which I have neglected to post about here. Despite being there for three weeks already.
I shall try to rectify that now.
So I have a new job!! And I actually like it. Yay! You can't really ask for more than that! It happened quickly, which is good, since I had already quit my (crap) Minacs job. I had gotten a call from a recruitment agency sometime before Christmas (I had seen it advertised on Workopolis) and the recruiter told me it would be working for a company called Carlson Marketing, which is a travel agency call centre mainly handling calls from TD Visa cardholders booking travel. They were hiring ten people, for a class starting January 4th. We chatted, the recruiter seemed nice (this was not someone who worked for Carlson), said she would put my name forward. But that was it. I never heard from the company. I went to their website, saw the careers section, saw the travel agent posting, and decided, what the heck? It can't hurt to apply this way too. This was all before Christmas, and I never heard from that recruiter person again.
Shortly after the New Year, I got an email from an hr person at Carlson asking me if I was available for a phone interview. Which, of course I was! I thought maybe the TD start date was moved or something. I have the phone interview, I learn it's not a TD position, but for some bank (or what I think is a bank) called Vancity. I do the interview, it goes well, the hr person tells me she wants me to go for an in person interview with the guy who would be my supervisor (should I get the job) the next day. Yay! Sounds good! I google the company, turns out Vancity is a credit union in Vancouver, and they have a Visa which offers points. I go for the interview, it goes VERY well. (This is a Thursday btw.) George (my supervisor - and the one interviewing me) tells me they're hiring one person asap and I should hear by the next day whether I got it or not. Meanwhile I had applied to a position for another travel agency called Flight Network, and had an interview scheduled for the next day (I end up never hearing a thing from this place - and I didn't get a good vibe from them, nor did it feel comfortable during my interview - Carlson on the other hand, I got a very good vibe from). I don't hear anything on Friday, am crushed, but still hopeful....maybe they just didn't make their decision yet?? Monday rolls around and I get the call of happiness! I'm being offered the position at Carlson!! Wooooo! Happy dancing ensues. They tell me I can start the next day if I want. I actually had plans the next day, so I started Wednesday. That was two and a half weeks ago. And so far, so good! The people are nice. I've become friendly with them in a short amount of time, which is nice. The training could have been better (it consisted of me call shadowing....and that's about it). But for the majority of it, I sat with a girl who was good at explaining things, and then letting me do it all. So I've taken calls sitting with her all the past week. And I feel confident. And I think my training has gone quicker than this other girl, who started about 4 weeks before me. I would have been ready to take calls on my own since Tuesday/Wednesday of last week, but they didn't fix my computer/hook up my phone until Friday afternoon. And as it is, half of my passwords don't work. But, it should be fixed by the time I get there Monday morning!
Oh, and I'm very thankful my position is with Vancity and NOT TD Visa. I'm on a small team of 7 (including me, but plus our supervisor). It means we're all fairly close, and I like everyone on my team. If I was on the TD side, it would be A LOT more like Air Miles. Very regimented. Strict about everything. Busy all the time. My team and supervisor are very relaxed. We can take personal calls (I have an extension!), we leave our cell phones out on our desks. We can surf the internet. We have personal email. Of course when a call comes through, it is expected that we focus only on the call. But that should really be a no brainer. And I'm booking any kind of travel now. Not just flights, hotels, and car rentals. I'm a full fledged travel agent. We have to complete booking forms and forward every thing to the clients. The TD people don't. They take the call, they book their flight (or whatever - I think there's a different department for packages), and that's it. The same way it was for me at Air Miles. I like doing more and having more responsibility.
Oh, and the best part? Or what will be the best part in a years time. They give you an extra week of holidays and a $500 fam allowance! Woohoo! (Semi) free trip!!
And yes, I REALLY am up at silly o'clock! (Expression borrowed from
scattydove!) I'm watching the Men's final at the Australian Open live! Which means I woke up at 3:30am and am going to be TIRED later. And I forgot that I have this meeting to go to at 9:30am. It's an all-members meeting at my synagogue and I told my dad I'd go with him. Basically, they've run out of money and we're going to hear the options the board has decided on. But then I can come home and SLEEP. Thank goodness it's Sunday!
I baby sat my nephew last night and put him to bed. I'm babysitting him for a whole weekend at the end of February, so it was good practice changing his diaper (ugh). I've tried to avoid changing his diaper in the past (because it's gross). He's so cute! He's obsessed with the Wiggles right now and dances along to them. He may just be the cutest kid ever. I'm not biased. Nope! Not at all!
Goooooo Roger!!!!
