June seems to be flying by. At least I am making progress on my chapter, so I don't feel bad about that at all. I actually need to do my extra careful notes on Henry V now, because I've said just about all I'm going to say about 2 Henry 4. Of course, I still need to make some romance connections in there, but I am not too worried. I think it's going to be more clear with the H5 part -- although, thematically, 2H4 does have a lot in common with Rosalind and Pandosto. Both romances' plots are based on senseless rumors and paranoia, and I've just gotten done arguing about how 2H4 is thematically laced with rumors. It was a lot of fun doing that analysis, especially because it made me see the play in a new light. It's not just all about rejecting Falstaff (which is mostly what people take away from the play). There are some really clever bits in there. Makes me so cheerful when I recognize them. I always think, "Oh Shakespeare -- you're such a smart dude. I love ya, always have."
Poor Will is screaming his little heart out in his crib right now. He's definitely needing a nap, but he just refuses to go down without a fight. It's sad, really. I hope that if we have another child that he/she will not put up such a fuss. But if he/she is anything like me (and Will), then he/she will be stubborn as hell. There's another argument for having another baby soon -- if we do, then Will won't remember what a mean mother I was to the new baby either (because of putting him/her down for a nap and just letting him/her cry it out). It wouldn't make me feel good if Will thought I was a mean mommy -- and I'm very glad he won't remember all these many days of having to cry himself to sleep. I honestly don't know why we have to go through this every day. I have tried all sorts of different things -- trying to put him down later, trying to put him down with a toy, with some milk... but nothing works. Eventually, he has to cry it out anyway. Ugh. It really sucks. Pulls at your heartstrings.
Well, I think I'll try to use his nap time to get some notes down for H5. Once more to the breach, my friends!
