//chapter 05
“So you’re telling me that Daiki kind of confessed to you last night?” Yabu confirmed without looking up from his paper works, “And now you’re here bonking your head on my wall because you ran away without saying anything besides not to skip breakfast?”
Takaki nodded, hitting his head on the wall once more.
“So, what’s your problem? You don’t like Daiki so why are you so worried?” Yabu asked.
“I don’t like him…” Takaki agreed, “But that doesn’t mean I hate him either.”
“So? What’s got you worrying?” Yabu asked again, “Unless… unless you kind of like Daiki in a more-than-just-a-friend way.”
“No!” Takaki immediately said, “Okay, maybe…”
“Maybe what?” Yabu prodded.
“It’s not that I’m falling for him,” Takaki frowned because now that’s thinking about it; he does feel something for Daiki ever since they met. “But it’s only because he’s the only one I know who can make me forget of all the pain I like inflicting on myself and make me feel alive once again.”
“You’re confusing.”
Takaki nodded in agreement.
“Well if you kind-of like him, then why didn’t you just say so?” Yabu suggested, “Go into a relationship with him and see where it will take you.”
“You know why I can’t…”
Yabu rolled his eyes and turned around to hit Takaki on his forehead, “As a matter of fact, I don’t. I don’t understand why you don’t take this chance with Daiki. Normal people would.”
“I’m not normal,” Takaki reminded him.
“Yes, because you’re stupid.” Yabu saw Takaki was about to interrupt him so he continued, “And yet Daiki’s falling for you. It’s not good to stay hung on the past, Takaki. Move on, will you? Ryosuke was one person, it doesn’t mean he would be your forever seeing as he’s… oh I don’t know… dead!”
Takaki snorted, sometimes Yabu can be so sarcastic. “I love Ryosuke.”
“And Ryosuke loved you, right until before he found someone else and you tried to stop him from leaving.” Yabu reminded him and almost felt sad when he saw his friend flinch, “You made the mistake of forcing your feelings on Ryosuke but you didn’t kill him.”
“If I let him go then maybe…”
Yabu placed his hand on Takaki’s arms, “Are you seriously still in love with Ryosuke, Takaki? Not just guilt or his memory?” He let go of Takaki’s arms and picked up his phone.
“What do you mean…” Takaki sputtered, “Of course I still love him! I love him ever since I could remember!”
“And Daiki?” Yabu raised his eyebrow.
“I…” Takaki frowned, “Daiki’s just a good friend.”
“Hmm.” Yabu nodded absent-mindedly.
“What?” Takaki’s frown never left his face.
“Well you just lost your good friend.” Yabu informed him.
Takaki blinked, confused still.
“Daiki just messaged me to tell me that he’s leaving because you probably hate him for falling for you and he doesn’t want to face that,” Yabu recited in his head, “Also known as, Daiki is Running Away from Rejection. By the time you come home, his things are probably gone and you’d never come across him ever again.”
“WHAT?!” Takaki didn’t realize why he was panicking or why he was screaming in the first place, “Where the fuck is that Penguin going?!”
“I wouldn’t know, would I?” Yabu shrugged.
Takaki gritted his teeth, debated for a second and then grabbed his bag to run out of the place without even knowing where exactly he was going.
Yabu grinned, “Takaki and Daiki are made for each other.”
--
Takaki really has no idea where he would be going so he went home first and saw a letter that Daiki had left. Thankfully the other mentioned where he was riding the train at least, although the time and place weren’t mentioned, he could look for him there.
Scanning the sea of people walking back and forth, Takaki was annoyed at how short Daiki was because that means it would be harder to spot him in this crowd. Looking around just standing was a waste of time so Takaki started running around, looking to see if there’s a Penguin-like-boy anywhere. Hopefully, Daiki’s train hasn’t left yet.
Just as Takaki was about to check the ticket booth, he saw a Penguin stuff toy on one of the bags at the waiting area with a sleeping boy sitting beside it. Now he knew why he couldn’t see Daiki, the other boy was asleep. Didn’t he knew of the dangers at letting his guard down at public?
“I’m a mugger, give me all your money,” Takaki whispered to Daiki’s ears and had the pleasure to witness the other boy stiffen up and panic before he realized who it was. “You should’ve seen your eyes! This is why you should never sleep in public places like this.”
Daiki didn’t mirror the amusement in Takaki’s eyes, “What are you doing here?”
“Stealing your money,” Takaki answered and laid out his palm, “Give it.”
“Go away if you have nothing better to say,” Daiki was about to stand up but Takaki’s hand on shoulders stopped him, “What exactly do you want by coming here, Takaki?”
Sighting, Takaki gathered up all his courage. It was now or never, either he eat up his pride or lose the chance to find happiness. “I want a second chance.”
“Second chance with what?” Daiki raised an eyebrow, “Stop speaking in broken sentence and spit it out.”
Takaki never really was an exhibitionist so he didn’t think admitting this in public was the best choice. However, Takaki also knew Daiki would never go anywhere with him unless he does say this because the other boy was stubborn like that. Heck, Daiki was just as stubborn as he is!
“Us, give us another chance…” Takaki smiled at Daiki’s even more confused expression, “You told me you might be falling for me, right? No, don’t deny it!” he cut off before Daiki could even open his mouth, “I heard it and I’m not mad.”
“Then why ignore it?” Daiki accused but Takaki ignored him.
“I’ve loved Ryosuke since I could remember…” Takaki explained and he saw the hurt that flashed in Daiki’s eyes, “But I want you to replace that. Help me forget him.”
“How am I supposed to fight for you over a person you love who’s dead?” Daiki raised an eyebrow, “He had years of memories in his side and all I have is a month. Tell me, how am I supposed to compete with that? Do I even have any chance of winning?”
Takaki frowned because he’s frustrated. Did Daiki really think he meant nothing to Takaki? And then he realized he can’t really blame Daiki because never really did Takaki show how much he appreciates Daiki’s existence. And there’s really one thing to do to prove that.
Leaning in, Takaki brushed their lips together.
“I say you pretty much have a huge chance at that,” Takaki whispered before finally taking Daiki’s mouth with his.
