//chapter 02

Takaki watched Daiki run around under the rain barefoot on their lawn. It was an amusing sight to find someone his age playing like a little kid although he does look like one-Takaki won’t tell Daiki this though, unless he wants a beating. He stays on the front door, leaning on the right with a cup of coffee on his hand.

“Come on, Takaki!” Daiki screamed, waving his hand rapidly, “The water feels cool!”

“Whenever did boiling water fell as rain?” Takaki asked with amusement, taking a sip of his coffee.

“YOU SUCK!” Daiki announced as he stuck his tongue out at him, “Go grow like an old man!”

Takaki chuckled, sipping more coffee. Daiki continued running around, jumping on puddles and screaming his lungs out with random lines from songs that neither of them could distinguish. It was very entertaining to watch him, Takaki had to give in to that and he would’ve joined him if not for his bad memory concerning the rain.

Running as fast as his legs could take him, Takaki couldn’t care less how drenched he was from the rain. All that mattered to him was that the other boy was five meters away from him, running as far away as possible from him without enough reason.

“YAMADA RYOSUKE!” Takaki screamed in desperation, “WHY ARE YOU RUNNING AWAY FROM ME?!”

It didn’t matter how the puddles soaked his jeans or the fact that his clothes were getting heavy from the water they had sipped. Rain continued pouring hard and Takaki was so afraid he would lose the other boy but after a while, Ryosuke stopped and looked up at the sky. Knowing this was the only chance to catch him, Takaki ran to his back and wrapped his arms tightly around the boy’s shoulders and rested his cheeks on the wet hair.

“Ryosuke… please…” Takaki heard himself begging. For what?

“I’m sorry, Yuya…” Ryosuke whispered his voice cracking.

Tightening his grip, almost like the other boy would disappear if he let go, Takaki cried that the tears and water mixed. No one said a word, the road was void of any other people or cars and he was thankful for that. All that matters was the person in his arms.

“I love you, Yuya…” Ryosuke whispered, kissing the skin on his hand that he could reach.

Takaki smiled, “And I love you, too.”

“But that’s not enough…” Ryosuke whispered one last time before he blacked out and fell limp on Takaki’s arms.

Hot coffee got pushed down his throat and Takaki jumped away with a jerk. Daiki was staring at him with a raised eyebrow and crossed arms, almost as if reprimanding him for doing something wrong. Which is, a little bit true, because Daiki made him promise to not get depressed.

“You’re going all lonely again,” Daiki told him knowingly, the water droplets from his hair falling to the wooden floor.

“I am not.” Takaki knows he was but he’d rather refuse to speak the truth.

Daiki snorted and shook his hair on his way, getting the front of his clothes wet.

“Hey!” Takaki screamed, jumping back again, “Are you a dog?”

“Nope,” Daiki answered with a grin. He took Takaki’s cup and placed it down on the table near them. Slowly, he went near the other boy like a predator and Takaki was smart enough to move back but not fast enough, “You’re going out to the rain with me!”

Unwillingly, Takaki got pulled outside. Before he could run back inside and try to save what was left of his dry clothes, Daiki enveloped him in a tight hug to keep him in place. For some unknown reason, Takaki felt his heart stop for a second before thumping faster than usual.

“You’re scared,” Daiki whispered to him, “But that’s not enough reason to not enjoy life.”

Slowly, Daiki let go of Takaki and then moved away, waiting for Takaki’s decision. It was on his own hands now, whether he would stay and enjoy what life could offer or run back in and hide in fear. All on his hands and he just stood there, unmoving.

“I wish you’d trust me, Takaki,” Daiki told him, his arms crossed with a frown on his pretty face. “I want to help you but I can’t if I don’t even know what I’m helping you against. You’re scared, you always are and for some freakish reason, you welcome that. You don’t run away, you accept it. How am I supposed to help you if I don’t know why?”

Takaki saw the deep concern in Daiki’s eyes, how he was worried and at the same time, hurt, that Takaki won’t share with him anything. It was so genuine that it hurts Takaki, he regrets agreeing with Yabu and moving in with Daiki. He didn’t want the other to get involved with him because Takaki was a lost cause… no one could heal him. Rather, the only one who could is now gone.

“Do you trust me enough, Takaki…?” Daiki asked, completely unsure of everything.

Did he? Takaki stared at Daiki longer than he wanted to and he realized the answer was so obvious. “Yeah, I do.”

“Then why aren’t you telling me anything?” The shorter man accused, “It’s not trust.”

Takaki felt himself shiver. Was it because of the cold?

“Allow me to help you…” Daiki dared, “Please?”

***

Sneezing, Takaki tugged on the blanket to further envelop him. It shouldn’t probably surprise him that he ended up with a fever after soaking under the rain with Daiki. Sadly, it was only him who ended up with fever while Daiki was on the kitchen preparing him something hot to eat. This can only be proof that his health isn’t at its best if half an hour soaking brought him to this.

“Pull up and eat your soup,” Daiki barked his order as soon as he got inside the room while holding a tray, “Come on; hurry up, my arms feels like they’re going to fall.”

Carefully, Takaki pulled himself up to a seating position and accepted the tray of food placed in front of him. Daiki didn’t say anything as he watched from beside the table while Takaki ate and ate, a word not even spoken in between.

“Thank you for the meal,” Takaki announced and handed Daiki the tray. “It tastes amazing, as usual.”

Daiki gave a sigh of relief before taking the tray and going out the room. The slow buzzing of someone washing the dishes could be heard before it ended. Knowing the other would come back inside the room again; Takaki leaned on one side and waited for him.

“Why are you still awake?” Daiki demanded with a glare as soon as he entered the room and saw Takaki waiting for him.

“I want to tell you of my past.”
