Fanmix: (Not) Bonnie and Clyde (Once Upon a Time, Emma/Neil)
(From this point on, there will be spoilers for whatever's been revealed from Season Two of Once Upon a Time, up to, at the time of publication, "The Miller's Daughter." You have been warned.)
In brief:
Once Upon a Time: a show on ABC (US TV network) about a town where fairy tale characters are trapped in Storybrooke, Maine. They can't go back to their fairy tale land, either. They'd like to go back, but there's always an idiot plot another season something preventing them from leaving.
Emma Swan: former conwoman, former bounty hunter, current Sheriff of Storybrooke. Pretty much stuck with straightening out the town's shit. Biological mother of a child named Henry. Squares off with Regina Mills, his adoptive mother, over said child. Used to be the girlfriend of Neil Cassidy.
Neil Cassidy: former (current?) conman, lives in New York. Does something (else?) there. IDK. The show'll invent something soon. I think. Used to be the boyfriend of Emma Swan.

Here's the story of Bonnie and Clyde
To understand how two people decided to steal from other people with a yellow Bug in tow, we have to start at the beginning…the very beginning. Or what feels like the beginning, but there may be people older than at the start of our story. (Next season, maybe?)
man named Rumpelstiltskin heads off to fight in the Ogre War, leaving behind a wife, Milah, and his unborn son, Baelfire. He is told by a seer that his destiny is to desert the war and be branded a coward for the rest of his life, much like his father. Because of the seer's prediction, Rumpelstiltskin deserts the Ogre War by dropping a hammer on his foot. Word spreads quickly, and soon Milah learns while Rumpelstiltskin leaves the war. Their relationship dissolves after that. Eventually Milah leaves Rumpelstiltskin for Killian Jones, a sea captain. But this is not their story.
Rumpelstiltskin is left to raise Baelfire alone. He is too cowardly to have Baelfire fight in the Ogre Wars, so they both go into the forest to protect him. It doesn't stop the two from being harassed by knights. The only way to stop the harassment is to gain control of an entity known as The Dark One. Rumpelstiltskin does this, but in turn, he becomes the new Dark One, and currently, he still is the Dark One. Rumpelstiltskin comes back to Baelfire with news of the victory, but Baelfire is disheartened that Rumpelstilskin is the Dark One.
There is one chance that will give Baelfire and Rumpelstiltskin a life together in a new realm together: a magic bean from the Blue Fairy. In the forest, Baelfire throws the magic bean and jumps into a new realm, a realm that isn't in the Enchanted Forest or in our world, but a realm that will be revealed in time…but Rumpelstiltskin doesn't go after him, because he is a coward.
Baelfire is in this new realm alone.
ell after Baelfire leaves the realm of the Enchanted Forest, an evil queen casts a spell on newlyweds Snow White, "Prince Charming," and the rest of their kingdom. The spell will transport them all to a new world and make them forget who they are until, in about 28 years time, the child of Snow White and Prince Charming saves them from the spell. The only way to save the Charmings is to put them in an enchanted cabinet made from a tree, as constructed by Geppetto and Pinocchio, his former wooden puppet son. However, time runs out for the Charmings to escape with their daughter, Emma, in the cabinet. The only person who can help her escape from the spell and go to a new world, our world, is Pinocchio. While the Charmings are left to fight back the queen's minions, Pinocchio and Emma go to the new world alone.

inocchio is eventually lured away from protecting Emma in the new world to go on adventures on his own. Meanwhile, Baelfire leaves the realm he was transported to and decides to go to our world to grow up. By this time, Baelfire has decided to change his name to Neil. (When and how this is done is not known. Yet.)
Their first meeting is in Portland, where they attempt to steal the same car. From there, they traveled around the country, conning people for money.

fter days on the road and endless conning other people, Emma and Neil are almost ready to settle down. Randomly, their goal is to get to Tallahassee to retire. (See back cover.) But first, the two have to pick up some watches hidden in a train station. (Naturally, these watches are hot.)
After years of being absent from Emma's life, Pinocchio, now known as August, reappears in Emma's life…somewhat. August knows that Neil is Baelfire. (How, I'm not certain, but I think the show handwaved this in, like 30 seconds, because that's what Once Upon a Time does, okay.) August tells Neil to leave Emma; Tallahassee isn't her destiny.
Reluctantly, Neil leaves Emma.

Emma is arrested for the watches.
Meanwhile, she's pregnant with her son, who will eventually be given up for adoption (don't ask, because I'm not sure if Once Upon a Time knows anything about adoption), adopted by the evil queen, now known as Regina, and named Henry.

Rumpelstiltskin, now known in Storybrooke as Mr. Gold, has found the son he lost years ago through magical means. Emma, Henry and Gold go to New York to find Gold's son. It turns out that Gold's long-lost son, Baelfire, is…Neil.

Everything is revealed: Emma and Henry know Neil is Baelfire, Henry learns Neil (and not some mysterious fireman) was his father, and, in a rather predictable romantic twist, Neil is dating Tamara, a woman who may or may not be from our world. (Hey, he thought Emma was gone forever, okay. Give him a break.)
But I believe there's some part of Emma that has hope they can be together again. And probably there's some part of Neil that thinks the same way as well.
