In today’s ever-changing world, it is always important to have a good handle on what is going on at all times, and have a clear idea of what can be done in order to improve the world for the benefit of all. These changes may be big or small, but they are necessary in order to see those around you have the chance to meet their full potential. At this time, I would like to address and issue that I believe is in need of quite a large change indeed: the political system of the digital world.
In the past, the digital world has been run on more or less no system whatsoever. One would survive by taking what one needed, whether it be found, begged, borrowed, or stolen. The bigger and meaner you were, the more likely you were to be able to hold power. However, as we have seen, this method has a method of failing, with both digimon and humans hungering for power and destruction having no trouble whatsoever in taking over the general population and declaring themselves overlords.
In the advent of Yukio Oikawa’s death and promise to repair the damaged digital world, many changes have begun to improve upon the condition of this world not only physically, but also within the digimon themselves to an extent. As such, I would like to propose that the system of ruling that we have seen up until this point is no longer proper in order to meet the needs of the average digimon. Digimon want representation, a chance for voices to be heard and truly listened to. They cry for protection from the bigger monsters that could attack them at any time, long for a system of preventing needless violence more sophisticated than merely hiding-trees, for education on proper conduct in the human world, and solid communication between the two worlds.
In light of all these needs, I feel that it would be in the best interest of the digital world to convert to a multi-tiered democratic government system. Governments would be represented by population, rather than land area, and delegates from each population would come forward to speak on behalf of their friends, family, and general community. I would also suggest the creation of a policing system and a criminal code in order to deal with the big bully digimon who still haunt the lives of many poorer, weaker digimon, and hospitals created to nurse wounded digimon back to help. I would also suggest that Primary Village be equipped with schools, so young digimon may be properly trained in the ways of both worlds before heading out to face the dangers themselves. Ambassadors from both the digital and human world would be needed in order to keep communications between these two worlds open, and keep the balance and harmony between the two in place.
I do not suggest that these changes take place immediately. They are large changes that, if all instated right away would leave many confused, and set the digital world into general chaos. Instead, I would suggest a slow integration of these systems, while keeping all digimon well-informed and letting them have a chance to comment on any problems or difficulties they may see arising from their instigation.
At this point of time, change is necessary and steps like these must begin to be taken at once in order to improve the digital world for all. With the phasing in of these institutions over the next ten to twenty years, I believe that it will give all digimon a chance to live happier, more peaceful lives.
