For your benefit, I'll type the poem I'm responding to here.
The Guest House
Rumi
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
Still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
Meet them all at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
Momentary awareness is a good way of describing life. Everything is momentary. Things are learned and then forgotten. Things are realized, and then slip away.
Every moment is an opportunity to learn. Being human, it is our job to seize this opportunity.
Every moment is a gift.
Every moment should be savored.
Things are not always what they seem.
Something may look like a defeat, or evil, or some horrible misfortune, and yet this very thing could turn out to be one of the best things ever to happen to you. Don't be quick to judge the meaning of events. Take each one in stride, and use this opportunity to learn and grow.

Love to hear your thoughts, all you people who read my journal...
