F.A.Q.

This is the frequently asked questions section! In case you had a question in mind, do refer to this place before inquiring! If you have a question that isn't answered on this post, feel free to ask it here! We'll get to answering your questions ASAP.

WAIT. SO WE'RE IN SOME KIND OF DREAM WORLD?
Yes. The character visits the world of Verfolgt in their sleep. They're still able to go about their regular everyday lives in their wake.

THIS MEANS THAT EVERY TIME MY CHARACTER SLEEPS, THEY'LL BE VISITING VERFOLGT?
No, not all the time. During the beginning, a character may visit only once or twice a month at most. But as the curse begins to grow, characters will visit much more frequently -- perhaps once or twice a week.

BUT WAIT A MINUTE. THAT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE, WOULDN'T THAT BE GIVING PLAYERS AN EXCUSE NOT TO POST AS MUCH?
My friend, it is called suspension of disbelief. An actual day counts as a week in this game. We wouldn't let you guys out of that so easily. :)

OH. SO, TECHNICALLY MY CHARACTER IS STILL IN THEIR CANON WORLD?
Yes. They'll still be able to function in their own "real life" world, but when they go to sleep they are able to visit the dream world of Verfolgt. You follow?

DOES THIS MEAN THAT MY CHARACTER IS ABLE TO MEET UP WITH CANONMATES AND DISCUSS THIS "DREAM WORLD" DILEMMA?
Not quite. Your fellow canonmates in which you meet in the dreamworld are all in a separate universe, in which the book chose them rather than you. So while you may know of eachother as you get to meet in the dream world, you cannot speak to those characters in your real world, as they wouldn't know what you were talking about.

EXAMPLE:
Tsuna meets Gokudera in the dream world. Being canonmates, they know eachother. They are able to discuss the dilemma of the cursed book and such, but once Tsuna wakes up and returns, he cannot discuss the matter with Gokudera in his real world, because it's a different Gokudera entirely. This Gokudera wouldn't know what Tsuna was talking about. Because in the dream world, the Gokudera that Tsuna met was in another alternate universe in which the book chose Gokudera instead of Tsuna. You follow? We want to give potential applicants the freedom to write their characters without the feeling of stepping on canonmates' toes. Feel free to ask us about this if you have any questions.

WHAT'S THIS 'SANITY METER' ABOUT?
If you're familiar with the Nintendo gamecube game Eternal Darkness, then you should know about this first hand. If not, we're using the 'sanity meter' more as a figurative sense, so there won't be some kind of meter diagram next to your character. The sanity meter is the threshold for your character's sanity. Should it run out, your character could either wake up from their nightmare or suffer through having their limbs severed and enter an ongoing cycle of restarting until you gain back enough sanity to stick around. It all depends on the character's mental strength.

CAN MY CHARACTER DIE IN VERFOLGT?
In the dream world? Simply put, no. They can appear to be killed (IE: stabbed through the chest.) but the most that could happen would be for them to wake up from their nightmare. Should something happen in their real world, however, is another story.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN 'ANOTHER STORY'?
Eventually, the distinction between reality and fantasy will narrow itself further -- to the point where the character could be hallucinating and projecting things from the dream world into their real world. And you can die in the real world.

ARE THERE ANY REPERCUSSIONS INVOLVED IF MY CHARACTER OVERSTAYS THEIR WELCOME IN VERFOLGT?
It's not encouraged for them to try it, but many things could happen that might threaten the character's real life. The curse could strengthen, and actions such as battles within the dream world could start to mirror and effect them in real life as well.

CAN MY CHARACTER LOSE THEIR MEMORY?
If your character continues to overstay their welcome, then it's highly possible that their actions could wind them up to lose a part of their memory. As well as their own mentality.

WHAT KIND OF CHARACTERS CAN BE AFFECTED EASILY/HARDLY?
It all depends on your character's strength. If they're the type of character with a very strong mentality, then obviously they won't be affected as much compared to a character of a weaker state. On the other hand, someone who's been plagued with guilt over their past (IE: wife murdering, father killing, etc.) is going to get consumed by the darkness much more easily than someone who's purely innocent.

SO THERE ARE TWO OPTIONS TO CHARACTER POSTING?
The two options are: real time and literary.

REAL TIME: is happening at the moment, and your character is actually meeting with another character face to face and interacting with them. This is only for those who are already in the dream world - as you cannot have real time interactions in your character's real world... who would you interact with? Not even your canonmates will know what you're talking about.

LITERARY: based posts are being written down on the character's book, or tome, and depending on what the character has written they'll get responses from other characters who are also reading from their own tomes. It's kind of like The Lake House only without the tragic plot holes, and you don't have to put anything in a mailbox! Just write in your book!

SO OBVIOUSLY, THE WRITING STYLES ARE GOING TO BE DIFFERENT BETWEEN REAL TIME AND LITERARY BASED POSTS?
Yep. Obviously, you don't stutter words when you're writing sometime. You don't sneeze or do any actions in literary styled posts. Only your character is that pretentious or something. Real time, however, anything goes!

SO CAN I DO THE BRACKETS THING IN REAL TIME POSTS LIKE HOW SOME OTHER RPGS DO IT?
We sort of have a "no brackets" policy, but we won't break your legs if you do it. We'd prefer players use a more literary style of writing, even with real time posts.

DOING IT RIGHT: Ludwig silently crept through the halls in the abandoned mansion, slightly regretful to have entered without proper permission. It felt uncomfortable being afraid of a place he was also imposing in.

Hello? Is anyone there? I am in need of some assistance.

DOING IT WRONG: [Zomg gaiz I totes need some RPin' action going on here, so feel free to spam lmfao.]

Hi.

Yeah, we don't like it. And there are enough RPGs out there who do it, anyway. :|
