I am a very heavy girl. I am also losing weight at last. This is my journey to hopefully losing 100lbs this year. I've enabled comments and/or if you'd like me to link to your blog about healthy lifestyle/weight loss/anything to do with this sort of thing - I am more than happy to! Building a support circle is going to be key for me. So if you want ( Read more... )

140 is a great weight to strive for. I don't think I'll ever be there. Lol. But with my body type I think I'd look my best around 180. So that's like my ultimate goal.

Any time you spend working out is helpful to your body and to your metabolism. However - its best to workout THEN eat. Not the other way around (unless you're doing serious serious cardio). You want to rev up your body and then provide it the nourishment it's craving. It'll burn it off before it has the chance to settle. Especially if you're doing simple carbs.

It's actually insane the amount of stuff I know about nutrition and the body and exercise. Cuz honey I've tried it all. I just wasn't aware that my body had some additional problems to work with until the last few years. Now I am on the right medications AND paired with the knowledge AND finally working on this consistently so I think it's the perfect storm. It's going to happen one way or the other. Lol. =)

Other easy tricks that really make a difference in the long run are drinking 6-8 glasses of water per day. Staying hydrated is the number one key to weight loss. If you ONLY drink water (and maybe some milk or soymilk) that would help tremendously. Personally I'm addicted to diet soda but I've cut the amount I drink in half. And I hope to get down to just drinking water. I think it would make a difference.

You can also switch from regular mayo to light. You can use "I can't believe it's not butter" instead of butter or regular margarine. Choose the breast on the chicken and not the thigh (or other lean cuts). Cut your carb portion in half and replace with extra non-starchy veggies to fill you up. Find something that will fulfill your sweet tooth but not get you off track. For me personally I love the no sugar added fudgecicles. They are 40 calories, taste amazing, and give me a chocolate fix all in one. Or if you need actual chocolate - go for very dark chocolate with no other added things like caramel or nouget. Use cottage cheese instead of regular salad dressing. It gives a lot of protein and really cuts the fat. Start your day off with protein. Always eat breakfast. Don't eat 3 hours before bed (if you can help it). Make sure you have "go to" snacks prepared ahead of time. If this means washing and cutting up some fruit and having it in the fridge, or having some hard-boiled eggs handy do it. Almonds are an excellent source of protein and are very filling. Apples are phenomenal. They are extremely filling and very low-cal.

One of my favorite snacks is: mix 1 tbsp of peanut butter with 1 tbsp of low fat granola. Mash them together to make a sticky paste. Cut up an apple and smear a little of this paste on each wedge. Pair this with a glass of milk/soymilk. Guaranteed this will keep you full for HOURS.

Low-fat cheeses have come a long way. Especially mozzarella. If you like cheese, keep this handy.

Another surprisngly yummy thing is special K bars. My friend just brought me one yesterday and it was AMAZING. Only 90 calories too!

And lastly - make a pot of some kind of soup to eat throughout the week. Make sure it has tons of veggies in it. This is a huge help to me.

Hope some of those tips help!!
