I am a very heavy girl. I am also losing weight at last. This is my journey to hopefully losing 100lbs this year. I've enabled comments and/or if you'd like me to link to your blog about healthy lifestyle/weight loss/anything to do with this sort of thing - I am more than happy to! Building a support circle is going to be key for me. So if you want ( Read more... )

I've lost large amounts and gained them back too (never more than 40lbs though). I have a wonky thyroid that doesn't help me maintain and of course there's that stupid will power thing too. Lol. I'm forcing myself to exercise even though it really hurts (I have fibromyalgia) - but I know if I don't do it and keep it off this time I'm going to need weight loss surgery. And I just can't bear the thought. I've been heavy off and on my whole life - but especially after high school. And I'm currently at the highest weight I've ever been.

But not for long. I figure two years of steady effort and I'll be where I want to be. And once I put that much work in for such a long time I think I'm not going to ever let myself be complacent again. But if I ever find myself where I am now - I'll know what I need to do to get it off. And I'll do it. Because I don't want to feel crappy my whole life.

Some websites I found that are excellent are 3fatgirls.com - specifically the forum. It's a great site because it has different sections for different kinds of dieters and specific ways of dieting. Basically if you do South Beach or Atkins or whatever... there will be a huge group of others also doing it on that forum. I really like the Calorie Counter group. And of course there is tons of info on exercising, all the latest fads, pills, etc... and how real people have used them and what results they got. I find that sometimes things are too good to be true and people on there will tell you what is crap and what actually helped them.

For counting calories I use a free online tool called Fitday. It's great because it not only tracks what you eat, but your moods everyday, your weight, measurements, it even provides a daily journal. It has all kinds of awesome free tools. I effing love that site. And of course I recommend keeping a blog. I think it has helped me over the last few weeks keep myself accountable.

HUGS.
