I had been working quite a few hours as Christmas approached, and had little time for shopping. I felt I could have done better last night, but it turns out this morning that that I didn't do badly.
The wacky side of today is that one of my gifts was a waterpik "dental water jet." Now I should mention that I did fall off motorcycles a little, but this thing has been much harder to adjust to controlling. My second time in the bathroom trying to use it I keep shooting myself. The closest image I can provide is that of an action movie extra getting blown away by rapid fire. I had water blasts all over myself and the mirror. It will be a wonderful tool in an area I could always use help in, but I need to have...words...with it.
I got a Logitech G13 game controller that I'd been interested in trying out since they came out last year. Being a huge Nostromo guy and never finding one working as part of a display, I was deeply curious. I'll have to set it up and take it into some Unreal Tournament 3 Warfare Mode to kick the tires and slam the doors.
A Wii was in the cards today, to be shared among the siblings. Unfortunately, the unit doesn't give video or sound, so we're still waiting to play this copy of Super Mario Wii. After seeing it in various displays around, I've been dying to try it (and so has
frankenroc) because it seems like they merged all the things that have gone so right with the series over the years. This will give us a chance to exchange the unit and one of the games, pick up Super Smash Bros. for this new system, and a third controller so that we can get some serious competition going.
The show-stealers today were a batch of new phones - almost everyone got a new phone, and we've been playing around with the various functions. I have been waiting a long time for PDA's and cell phones to merge successfully, and while I didn't think that time would be now, this phone has me wondering if the time has come and I don't yet know it. This is also my second cellular phone ever. We'll have to get out early tomorrow to get our phones changed over to our old numbers, though.
I think it's wonderful that you can keep a phone number. Think of how much difficulty there would be if you had to update everyone who might ever call you again on a number you were losing. Some of you have probably had to do that.
The phone has Twitter capability, but I still have my dignity. Besides, I object to the idea that you should push updates out over computer and cellular networks just for an entry - you'll just end up spamming the world because someone wanted to announce that they like cake. LiveJournal has it right - no mater the length of the post, the proper way is to allow devices connecting to the network to seek out updates, eliminating unneeded traffic and sending the information to devices each individual is actually using (or has properly automated).
RSS is the future, not Twitter spam. They'll probably break the internet or something before they learn.
Oh, and my most interesting present was found at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. No, really.
techie_in_black and I were on the hunt and I spied this tall, square, upright bin that seals airtight. As if it were a sign from the gods, the label planted inside it showed sticks of liccorice standing upright...
...and I knew that I had found a Twizzler Vault.
