I find myself wondering about just what it is Eileen is suffering from that is sapping her so much physically as well as magically. (I didn't just miss that being said, right?)

No, you didn’t. But in my mind it’s something similar to whatever psychosomatic ailment brought Merope Gaunt low; in Merope’s case, it seems that psychological factors may have indeed been sufficient to bring on her physical/magical deterioration and death. Whatever Eileen’s affliction is, I don’t think it’s a purely physical, Muggle disease.

...er, Regulus? (Well, I suppose we don't know when that photo with him on the team was taken; it might have been in Severus's sixth or seventh year and thus after these events.)

I wasn’t specifically thinking of Regulus, but you are free to imagine it was him if you like. :)

Did say, or did die? *ahem* (this is not facetious - in a sense, he has died since last summer...)

I was only thinking “did say” - you or I might view him as having metaphorically died, but I'm not sure Snape himself would. One thing I’ve always liked about our Severus is that he doesn’t view his own suffering melodramatically or hyperbolically, nor does he advertise it to others - he just grits his teeth and does it.

Petunia's already married to Vernon then? How does Severus know her new last name? I'm a little confused about her coming to the apparently currently empty Evanses' house if she and Vernon are having a "date night" or whatever you wish to call it.

No, she’s single, probably at university and back home at her parents’ house for the summer, but conducting a more-or-less adult dating life, and she happens to be the only member of the family Snape sees at the Evanses' during this particular episode of snooping. I suspect it isn’t Vernon she’s with in this chapter (he doesn’t seem like the kind of person to put down roots far from where he grew up, and since the Dursleys live outside London in the books, I suspect Vernon was also raised in the south of England). Rather, my hypothesis is that the dude with Petunia is merely a forerunner to Vernon, and that mustaches are a kink for her. ;)

(Should there be more art? I only see the one piece...)

There are a total of three pieces of art (a banner and two illustrations), and all three were posted as part of the initial post. (The second of niccc’s two illustrations rightly belongs with chapter 8, but since it was going to take a while for that chapter to get posted and I didn’t want niccc to have to wait that long to have all her art put up, her second piece was included at the end of the initial post as a “preview” of coming attractions, sorta. My plan is to repost that one along with chapter 8, as a thank-you to niccc for putting up with the strangeness of the arrangements for this fic.)

Why is she being referred to as Petunia Dursley then?

I see only the banner and then a picture of Severus looking at two doors all the way at the end of the text.

Um...because I fucked up. It seems I can only think of Petunia as a Dursley, and forgot that I intended her to still be an Evans here. You're right to point out that this is potentially confusing. I've changed it.

You don't see a black and white portrait of Voldemort in chapter two, eighteen paragraphs in? I can see it when I'm logged in as myself, not just when I'm logged in as a mod. If you can't see it, let me know - we may have a ghost in the LJ/Dreamwidth machine here.

Ah, OK. Sorry to be a jerk :(

No. If I look at the post source code, in Ch 2 I see this:

The Dark Lord, Voldemort himself, was sitting here in his bedroom, just as if he had been invited over for tea and biscuits.

“You are Severus Snape?

Soo... it's trying to point to a gmail message of some kind to get an image, rather than the other image links which all point to a photobucket account. If you see a picture there, I guess it must be in your browser cache or something?

Ah, OK. Sorry to be a jerk :(

No worries - I actually appreciate your pointing it out. I've tried to pre-beta this thing super diligently, both to spare my beta unnecessary angst and because I'm anal like that, and I'm annoyed with myself for not catching this. Perfectionist Ravenclaw tendencies, you know. :)

As for the art issue - that is far more critical, and I would never have known about it had someone not pointed it out, so muchas gracias for doing so. I did indeed pull the art straight from Gmail, and I guess in the second case I neglected to save it properly to my own system before copying it into the post. I'll fix it as soon as I have a moment, and send an apology to niccc.
