The 25th February saw me going to one of the monk8yz wedding. The first wedding of a close friend of mine! Which means that I'm getting old and is of marriageable age. And it's also My First Chinese Wedding!
So, at first, I rejected the invitation cause, you know, not halal and all and she told me that the first course contains pork. But anyway, she told me later that they could specially cater halal food for muslim people like me!
The wedding was at Bliss Garden Restaurant at Expo which is awesome cause I live 20 minutes away. Despite that, Cherly and I were slightly late and cabbed there. And I asked her if you have to be punctual for chinese weddings and she didn't really know. This was also the first wedding she's going to without her mum. And you know how for malay weddings it's like, on the invitation it states 4pm-6pm (for example) but you can come at 5pm, eat, take pictures with the wedded couple and give your blessings and leave by 5:30pm and it's totally fine. It really depends on the connection you have with the bride and groom.
I found out that chinese weddings are exactly like prom! Almost. Because they have this whole "performance" when they bring the first course in with special lightings and stuff. I had a personal waiter who brought my food to me! Hee.
I should have taken pictures of the food because they were sooo good! I heard from my friends that normally that food at chinese weddings aren't that nice even though you have to pay A LOT for the caterer at the wedding. Compared to my chinese friends, I had almost the same food they had so it wasn't like at the buffet I had at Food Haven where the food I had was 100% different from the rest (and it wasn't even buffet!). There was Cereal Prawns which was soo good. I loved everything except the yellow rice because that was the second last course and by that time, I was almost stuffed! Just looking at the full plate of yellow rice made me nauseous so I just ate the prawns inside.
The couple was so sweet, I think Yaoyao will treat Yong 'En well. Seeing them together made me think that it's not so bad to have someone in your life to look out for you beside your family. Hmm...
But at the end of the wedding reception, you could tell that Yong 'En was tired out. They have to go to each and every table to take pictures and all the customs (pouring wine, yam seng-ing etc) and they hardly had time to grab a bite. But I think it's all worth it if it's to be with someone you love. <3
Cute couple keychains for souvenirs! Now I need to find someone to give the other one to...
