The world is Flat

Still reading it, but figured I'd get more out of writing down some of my swirling thoughts then once again letting them keep me up

The book is interesting and in many ways restating things that are already known. The question is, how much of this did I get from my professors, especially those telling me that I should read this book? The answer is probably pretty much. But then I'm seeing it too. Entrance into the major I graduated from is down from previous years. So much that when CoB went through cut backs, it didn't touch IS, why? because there was nothing to cut back. the Engineering classes are smaller as well. . . and no not just because they are well engineering classes. . .

I saw it in HS, and grade school, what the guy is talking about. As Americans we don't seem to strive for anything, there doesn't seem to be a reason to. Putting effort into anything makes you socially an outcast and why would you want to do that? This lazze faire sense of entitlement. That well duh we should end up in the same tax bracket as our parents, that we should make a lot of money. ..but why should we? and how are we going to get there?

Again on the college level. . . how many graduate students are native born? MIS, or in engineering? There are a few, some who couldn't figure out what to do after college. . . and some who wanted to go back anyway. .. but what happenes to those others. . .

or what of the factor that I've heard over and over again the past few months. . . Only 17% graduate college and an even smaller percent go on for more education afterwards. WTF? only 17% and this is something that I was always told was becoming the equivelant of a HS diploma

I've known I would want to go for a grad degree, as more of a hrmmm what to specialize in. . . still don't know what I'd want to specialize in, or what I'd want to get a grad degree in. . .

Is it bad that I am feeling a bit like I'm never satisfied? and would possibly want to poke and prod matt go go on with his education. . .

hrmmm maybe if I find some sort of engineering program I could get into. . . I could work for NASA. . . I hear they're hiring :D ;)
