Stephen Fry VS Vaginas

I've always liked Stephen Fry. He's charming in that tweedy kind of way and I greatly enjoyed A Bit Of Fry & Laurie and QI is one of my favorite shows. That being said, I am having trouble conjuring up a dollop of respect for the man after reading (and viewing older evidence on video) of his views on women, gay men and sex. Stephen, being openly gay himself, had this to say about sex and relationships:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/twitter/8100845/Stephen-Fry-hints-hes-quitting-Twitter-over-comments-on-women-and-sex.html

In summary- women are not interested in sex and this is evident because they don't go around trolling for sex with every man they meet and dropping their panties in public bathrooms for a fast fuck. He also seems to be insinuating that gay men in general do these things and that straight men are only after sex. It just gets worse from there. There are so many offensive and really the worse part is phenomenally ignorant statements he made that it truly does make my head spin.

In case you might think I am one of those femenazi, politically correct androids who just doesn't get a joke when I hear it, I can tell you that I despise politically correct fuckery and think it is destroying the world. I love the words ditchnigger, whore, bitchspiddle and I like to use the word manroot any time I can in public. I think all people should be made fun of, especially me. Militant feminism makes me squirm and I love men, both the sex crazed zombies and the human ones. I am a certified fag hag, bisexual and have seen things in fetish clubs that have a very high shit your pants from fear factor. That being said...

Stephen Fry has stated in his books that he was celibate for 16 years. How can a gay man, who imposed celibacy on himself for sixteen years and has extremely limited experience with women comment at all on how women do or do not enjoy sex? I do not claim to know dick about gay men but I do know many gay men as friends and I do not know any that go around trolling for sex with strangers in bathrooms. What the fuck. Did Fry completely miss that whole AIDS thing? Did Mr. Fry forget that women place themselves in danger- potentially mortal danger- by engaging in such behavior? Does Mr. Fry know that women can get pregnant? Does he realize that a woman who engages in promiscuous sex is branded a whore in our society and that this can affect their careers, their family dynamics, relationships and their futures? Does Stephen Fry live in a perpetual 1976 where the gay bath houses that spread AIDS in the 80's haven't yet been plagued by fatal disease?

I have heard the 'women only use sex as a way to trap men' argument before, but in the past, every time I have heard it, you can be sure it has come from the mouth of a misogynist douchebag who is trying to explain why you should “never kiss em on the mouth.” But you know what, since I have heard that argument before, I will now point out the dooficity (as in you are a doofus and I am ashamed of your dooficity) of his comments about gay sexuality.

Only morons troll for sex in bathrooms, parks and public places. Well, morons and perverts. First off, pull a George Micheal and you get arrested in most places. So that's risk #1. Oh then there's AIDS and other genetaliated (it's a word now) diseases that are awfully hard to explain to mom and dad. And how about the pathetic aspect of such a method of finding a sex partner? It is pathetic, no doubts there in my mind. I am all for a shag, believe me- I am not in any way a prude. Screw like bunnies! But picking up guys in parks and toilets? Why does Mr. Fry think this is a “gay” thing? Yes, there is always a contingency of flamers that will engage in such high risk behaviors, the same as there are always middle aged, bleach dyed bar flies that will fuck truckers in the truck stop bathroom. But Stephen Fry seems to be saying that those people who do not engage in such behavior (ya know, women) must not like sex or they would be trying to get it all the time, even if they have to lower themselves to depraved and dangerous levels to get it.

He reduces women to frigid, man trapping bitches.

He reduces gay men into pathetic, pervy toilet whores.

He reduces straight men to sex crazed zombies.

Ooh, ooh, Stephen, say something bad about Chinese people now. There's bizillions of them!

Now that people have voiced their outrage (on his Twitter page) he claims he said these things as some kind of satirical joke. I call bullshit. He has said similar things in the past and internet detectives with too much time on their hands (bless em) have dug up years old footage of him saying similar douchy macdoucherton type things that you'd expect a monkey to say. His back peddling is not going to work. I expected that he would quickly apologize publicly and maybe then try to back peddle, but no. Instead of doing what any reasonable person would do (“OMG did I really say that out loud? I must have been high.”) Mr. Fry decided to shut down his Twitter page in a move equivelent to a 6 year old throwing their hands up in the air and saying “nobody loves me, might as well eat fried worms” and storming out of the room in a fed up tantrum.

Making vast (and really stupid) generalizations of, well, the whole planet has never gotten good reviews in the past. What made Mr. Fry think that his statements would go over well in any public forum?

I sincerely hope he was misquoted but I don't think he was. I would love to think he just had a bad day and lost his mind for a few minutes, but in any case, I cannot respect that he was dumb enough to say such things to the public. He is a public figure, he should know better. That he apparently expected zero backlash is even more baffling. His childlike tantrum makes me think he is far less mature minded than people think. And all this from a guy who recently dumped his long term partner for a 25 year old. I am not placing judgment there but in context with everything else, that seems a bit... shitty.

I don't put much stock in celebs and what they say or do but I thought Mr. Fry was smart and interesting, have enjoyed his cleverness in the past and I would hope he is a smart enough man to make a fast apology before his stupidity catches up with him. He is not an actor in the proper sense and his career as a public personality is completely reliant on his likability factor, which has plummeted even in his core fan base of which I was a part of.

Badly played, man. Badly played.

stephen fry, impressive stupidity
