How excited am I for Children in Need tonight? PRETTY GODDAMN EXCITED.
(New Who, watching it on TV as it is aired for the first time, without having to wait on torrents or downloads or what have you? My license fee is SO WORTH IT. My only regret is that I'll have no way of uploading it for the rest of you people. But I am sure that there will be people out there far more capable than me in that regard.)
So as ready as I am for the *squee* and the *flail* tonight, I'm also sort of trying to mentally prepare myself for the fact that there will inevitably be people who will hate it. It could be the awesomest thing ever, with Five and Ten totally shagging each other over the console, and there will still be people who will be disappointed over it, that's just the way fandom is. Also, I suppose there is the slim possibility that it could actually suck, but I tend not to think that way. I'm the kind of fan who, after The Last of the Time Lords, spent a considerable amount of time listing as many things as I could that I *liked* about the episode, instead of the numerous ways in which I *didn't* like it. I deal with disappointment with creative ret-con and a highly selective memory (please see any post I've ever made about X-Files for reference.)
It doesn't mean that certain things don't fill me with The Bitter (again, please see any post I've ever made about X-Files) but at least with Who, I generally try to keep shit like canon from preventing me from enjoying what's *really* important: The squee, the lulz, and the Timecock, not necessarily in that order.
And anyways, I'm totally good to go no matter what happens tonight, thanks to
this picture. No matter what actually happens, I can always come up with a story where Ten totally stopped time in this instant, and the two of them are having Teh Mind!Schmexx in their heads right now. It doesn't really matter what happens tonight, because this is totally already canon in my head.
