Okay, the floors have been refinished. Yay! And today Avi and I primed the hall, living room, and dining room. We shopped for light fixtures but we haven't found anything we agree on yet. And we picked our paint colors.
Our original plan was charcoal walls and white trim, but we couldn't find a charcoal we liked, so we went with light brown (Behr's "vast desert") walls and cream ("coastal beige") trim in the living room (3 walls) and the colors flipped in the dining room. (We're also going to paint the door to the addition brown).
The amusing thing is that despite the fact we're actually going significantly lighter than we'd intended, my MIL is still going to freak out that we haven't painted the walls white. I'm continually fascinated by her limits.
The woman, you see, is an artist. She creates lovely works of papercut art and is excellent at picking the right colors for backing and framing and matting and such. But walls MUST BE WHITE. Bedsheets...MUST BE WHITE. If you don't paint your walls white, plain white, the room will be too dark, end of story. No exceptions allowed. The art you put on your walls can have lots of color, but it absolutely must be placed against white walls.
Not that I have anything against white walls, but there's a whole world of color out there! I like our bedroom, with its white walls and bright blue shades and closet door, but I also like Barak's bedroom with the bright yellow walls and white trim. (Yael's room is another matter, but we don't talk about that...)
I think our living room/dining room is going to be awesome :D Now we have to figure out some lights.
(Dr. C will be so happy to hear about how much fun we've been having talking about decorating.)
