Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
Other than the usual peace on earth, there isn't a lot I need or want, but I'll try :)
1) New icons of my kiddies, since all my icons are old and besides, if I made them, they suck! There should be plenty of cute pics of the kids under the "pictures" tag. This would make me deliriously happy!
2) Fic would always always make me happy. Of course, anything you decided to write for me in a fandom I like would be welcome, but at this moment I'd especially love some Blood Ties (either gen or Mike/Henry or Mike/Vicki/Henry) or DCU (any of my favorite characters). Really, I just want some fun, happy fic in which nobody is sick or dying or angsting (well, DCU characters have a legal minimum of angsting required, but no more than that :D). Lemme think...I'd also squee madly for some Eureka fic (why isn't there more???), Doctor Who, or a wacky crackaddled crossover.
3) Anybody wanna write a sequel to one of my stories? I give y'all free rein to use any of my original characters or crazy ideas if they should inspire you.
4) I want someone to find a copy of The Great Merlini by Clayton Rawson (i.e., the complete short stories, not the novels, which I already have) for me to buy that costs a reasonable price. At this point, I'm desperate enough to be willing to pay $25 or $30, but I can't afford the $70 or $80 I'm seeing. I don't need anyone to buy it for me, I just need to know where to find it! (Alternatively, if you find a copy in a used bookstore, I'll reimburse you. Really, I want this book sooooo badly.)
5) Review some TV shows and become an author at
Firefox News. I'm feeling incredible guilt because I've had to stop reviewing House (heck, I haven't even watched it since the first episode of the season) and it would make me feel better if some of y'all, who I know are great writers, would pick up my slack.
6) Go find a fic you've always intended to send feedback for and never quite gotten around to it. Y'know, that story you finished reading at 2 am and then you went to bed and you felt guilty the next day but you just haven't had time since. Go! You're absolved if you send feedback now! Talk about how you did it and maybe you can inspire some other people to do the same. That would be even better.
7) And hey, if you feel like it, I always love getting feedback for my stories as well. Check my links list for my fanfiction.net page, which is currently the most up-to-date. (My website and my AO3 page are both under construction, but both have a substantial number of stories if you want to look there.)
8) Send a letter to Yael. She would absolutely adore getting mail from someone and just a few lines would make her day. A picture postcard would be ideal, but anything would be appreciated. Just holler if you need my address for this.
9) Forgive me for being a sucky friend who never calls and forgets birthdays and is generally a socially inept loser.
10) Tell me that this year is going to suck less than last year. Lie to me if you have to.
Last year I was able to write a lot of fics for
fandom_stocking and man, that was fun. Sadly, I doubt I'll have anywhere near as much time this year, but I plan to keep an eye out and see if there's any drabbles I can write people. Those of you posting holiday wishlists, I hope you'll post any fandom-related stuff in
fandom_stocking, because that's a central place for me to look when I have a few moments. ::nudges
