Two good quotes of the day

I love John Rogers (creator of Jaime Reyes and co-creator of Leverage) and the blog Kung Fu Monkey

And for those of you who have written in: I am indeed gratified by the unexpectedly large role Jaime Reyes as Blue Beetle has played in the new kid-friendly Batman animated hit. Or, less subtly, I am gratified by the role a character whose book has ( Read more... )

It sounds like the mother of the octuplets is mentally ill at least according to her mother and the procedure play to her illness rather than addressed it and the care of the poor children.

The story gets weirder if you can believe this blog. The name she gave for the father of the babies? is the americanized version of her father's name.

The whole thing gets crazier and crazier. Gosh I feel for the 14 children. Really I do. However she wound up with the kids - IVF from a shady clinic, fertility drugs from the internet without medical supervision, or whatever - there are now 14 children under the age of 7 that need care, education, and a lifetime of support (I know my parents still give me a special emotional support no one else can). I hope the media covers the questions of care of the children and the mess more than 'oh look a human litter!'

The media is...sort of covering it, from what I can tell. But yes, I agree, I really feel badly for the kids. Poor things.

I also feel bad because this is going to cause a backlash against people who legitimately need fertility treatments. ::headdesk::

I don't see that backlash coming. I see it more as a backlash against implanting large amounts of embryos or even against internet available fertility drugs...

Now the suggestion that she's listed her father as the father of the children just spins that case even more... **mind boggles**

Sadly, as I've been reading blogs and comments, I've seen a lot of "See, we need to regulate this industry more!" and "See, maybe this shouldn't be allowed at all" kind of stuff.

However, I'm all for a backlash against implanting large numbers of embryos and Net-available fertility drugs. Dude, Clomid isn't a toy!

Like all things - use the knowledge, drugs and proceedures with common sense. As my dad, a pharmacist says so many great drugs have been blacklisted and are no longer available despite being the best we know for what they did because of idiots outside the medical profession abusing them - thus the professionals can't be trusted either (granted there are irresponsible professionals but a vast majority aren't).

I've not read a lot about this just rolled my eyes at the whole thing until I saw this about her mother saying she had an OCD compulsion to collect babies.

Oh lordy yes, it's ridiculous to see drugs that work get pulled because some people don't have the brains the universe gave to little green apples. ::headdesk::
