IM etiquette question

Jul 09, 2011 22:19

Okay, I've been prodded to get on IM for work. (No, don't try to add me on any IM network, because I'll turn you down. Nothing personal, I don't IM/chat with ANYONE if I can possibly avoid it.)

Anyway, I'm not sure of the etiquette of IM, so...okay, somebody IMs me with a question, I answer, we discuss the issue a while, then conversation lapses. Do I close the window thingy or is that like hanging up on someone? Do I say that I'm closing it? Do I just leave it sitting there until I sign off or what?

Hi, social phobic here. ::whines:: IM and chat are like phones for me! I don't know how to start, I don't know how to end, and I'm not sure what to do in the middle. But, y'know, other than that, it's fine ::eyeroll::
