My kids are doing a five paragraph essay for their midterms, so I was thinking about how best to write a five paragraph essay. I wanted to have a topic ready that would not be an actual assignment and so I came up with the following topic and five paragraph essay...no mocking...any more than necessary anyhow
Topic: Are apples better than oranges?
Fruits of all kinds are wonderful. Fruit is healthy, contains vitamins, and is delicious! So in a manner of speaking, all fruits are essentially "good." However, some fruits have qualities that make them superior. Oranges are delicious, but if one considers the options, apples are definitely a better alternative!
First of all, apples do not need to be peeled. This is excellent because one can eat an apple on the go! No need to stop, like an orange requires, and monotonously pick at a tough skin. Besides, most nutrients are found in fruit skins in the first place. Why get rid of all the "good stuff?"
Another benefit is that you can really eat it on the go because apples are not nearly so saturated with sticky juice that might squirt into an unsuspecting eye.The juice of an apple is contained within its flesh. Speaking of containment, the apple seeds are always in the same place the middle. One never knows where an orange seed may be lurking!
Another advantage apples have is that when cut across the center, an apple core looks like a star! Oranges have no inner star power. Also, who ever heard of orange pie? Not many, but say apple pie and people come running, fork in hand!
So when all the factors are taken into consideration, apples are far superior to oranges. From travel capabilities to secret inside geometry, consistency of seed placement to delicious desert potential, apples win hands down. Now, who wants apple pie!?
