I think that what you're describing is the best partnership of all, sort of the synergy between science and science fiction. Sci-fi generally dreams up the future that hard science can then achieve, but without one there wouldn't be the other.
(I'm not trying to downplay either of your intelligence or creativity with that comparison, but that's the first thing I thought of.)
