In "decisive battles" the commander always goes first. Otherwise, you can pick who goes first if you have several people engaged in a map battle.

I still haven't figured out the logic behind character order, and I finished CotS mode. :/

Yeah, that's kinda how I was with Tekken.. I was on vacation in Florida and there was an arcade in walking distance of the hotel... and my kick then was SF vs XM, but they only had kinda old games, one of which was Tekken 1... instant addiction XO

Heh, the consoles have surpassed the arcade machines in terms of tech, I think... the arcades cabinets used to be all high-tech, and then for a while they were about neck-and-neck, but I think the next gen here is going to blow the current arcade crop out of the water. ^^; It'll be interesting to see if new arcade games continue to come out with newer hardware...
