Holy crap, is this the norm now?

Pleased surprise this time around, I'm shocked to report. I'm still over here being blown away by how good Dragon Age Inquisition is, and I mean particularly in how it treats the women in its story. There are a shit-ton of female characters whom I absolutely adore, and they're all completely different from one another, and not a single one is the stereotypical damsel in distress or evil sex goddess or even the girl next door. I haven't liked women in fiction like this for ages. I was honestly beginning to think that I was so damaged by internalized misogyny or some shit that I didn't tend to like female characters, but nope, it's not me, it's the fucking usual TV/book/game authors who couldn't write a woman if it killed them. Also, on a side note that really demands it's own important post: Dragon Age Inquisition just knocks it out of the park for their gay, lesbian, and transgender characters.

Who the fuck wrote this? How does this exist? What world am I living in?

EVERYTHING IS BEAUTIFUL AND NOTHING HURTS.

Also, I haven't loved a straight m/f relationship like I do the Cullen/Inquisitor storyline for two fucking decades, I swear to god. Everything romantic and sweet about the romances I loved as a teenager--and then could never re-read as everything problematic about them just leaped screamingly into my vision whenever I tried--is present in this story, but they have the tension between consent and assertion balanced absolutely perfectly, with a wonderfully equal dynamic between the two characters. To quote philosoverted, "not only is this the best Cullen out of all possible Cullens we could’ve gotten, he’s one of the best out of all possible Standard Chivalric Knight Fantasy-trope romances." DOING THAT WITH A FEMINIST PERSPECTIVE, I DIDN'T THINK THAT WAS POSSIBLE.

Okay, seriously, here's the post is you are interested, because oh my god, that is how it is done.
