Filling in some gaps

So this little bit happens right after they are locked in the basement.  I've decided that there will be a time gap between being trapped down there and them going to the beach, one month maybe two, not sure yet.

Wyatt Havenword sat in his office going over paperwork, there was a lot to do to get his lay practice up and running here.  He still had a few clients left in New York that he would need to fly back and forth a few times to finish things with, but most everything could be handled ocer the phone and fax from here on out.

A soft tap at the door announced that he had a visitor, “Come in.”  Jason entered the room and stood across from him.  Wyatt set down his pen and looked up.  It was rare for Jason to seek him out and when he did it was usually something important.  “Is there something I can do for you?”

Jason silently parused the books lining one side of his father’s office.  Out of curiosity he had once read all of them, that had convinced him that he did not want to go into law, there was nothing new to discover in law.  After a while, “I need some advice.”

That defiantly got Wyatt’s attention, his son had not come to him for advice in almost 100 years, “I am at your disposal.”

“After much thought I have decided to pursue Marissa.”

“Good to see you moving on,  How can I be of help to you?”

“When I courted Nikki everything was done for us; the balls, the outings, all was planned by a third party, I did not have to do any of the planning.”

“Yes, I remember.  It was a very convient time for such things, all a young man had to do was just show up and be charming and he was sure to end up with a beautiful woman on his arm.”  Wyatt smiled fondly, remembering.

“Yes, but the problem is that young couples do not court that way anymore, they do not court at all as far as I can tell.  They date, and I have no clue what that looks like.”

There was a long pause, “And you want my help in dating Marissa?”

“More along the line of guidance as to how.”

Wyatt, sat quietly, pondering the question, “I am afraid I have no practical knowledge of such things.”  Another pause, “Have you tried looking it up on the internet?”

“Wikipedia was no help.”

“Well, hmm…have you tried google?”

Jason gave him an exasperated look, “How do you think I found the wikipedia article?  I got that and everything else appeared to be internet dating sites.”

“I have one other idea, wait here a moment.”  Wyatt stood and left the room.

“I had a very peculiar conversation with our son this afternoon.”  Both Wyatt and Shirea lay in bed, each reading their own books, Wyatt wore a small pair of reading spectacles.

“Oh?” Shirea did not look up from her novel.

“Yes, he came to me asking for advice on dating.”

Shirea closed her book very carefully and turned to face her husband.  “And what exactly did you tell him?”

“Not much I am afraid.  I have no more experience in this realm than he does, more likely, less so.  Our marriage was arranged.”

“Is that all?”

“I could not send the poor boy away empty handed, so I gave him a few videos to watch.”

“And what videos did you give him to watch?”  Shirea’s tone said more than her words.

“Nothing all that bad, I only gave him a handful of those sappy ones you enjoy watching,” Wyatt answered indignantly.

“Which ones did you give him?”

“Oh, I do not know,” Wyatt dismissively waved his hand; he was reader to return to his paperwork.  “The ones that were stacked next to the television.”

“I will be right back darling.”  Shirea gave Wyatt a hasty kiss on the cheek and quickly made her way out of the room, pulling on her robe as she left.

She found Jason seated on one of recliners in the media room, a notebook next to him and a stack of DVDs next to the tv.  Shirea perched on the armrest and eyed the movies warily.  “How many of these have you watched?”

“Most of them,” Jason’s voice was glum.  “Father tell you why I wanted his advice?”

“You are interested in dating Marissa, is that correct?”  Jason nodded, not taking his eyes off of the figures dancing across the screen.  “And you went to your father for that kind of advice?”  Her voice was teasing, but Jason only shrugged.  “Where any of the movies helpful?”

“I am not sure.”

“May I offer my assistance?”  Shirea retrieved the movies and resumed her sea.  An eyebrow arched as she flipped through the titles.  “If nothing else your father provided you with a variety of what to do and not to do.  For starters,” she held up Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, “kidnapping is not recommended.  Neither is deception,” Shirea indicated 50 First Dates.

“In truth, most of these were not any help.”  Jason was dejected.  “I cannot make heads or tales of what the rules are, what is acceptable, what is allowed, what is not.”  Jason tossed his notebook to the floor and leaned back unhappily.

“I am by no means an expert, but while you have spent the last hundred years bent over test tubes and Bunsen burners, I have been watching people.  The key to dating seems to be having fun and getting to know one another.  So, in whatever you choose to do, pick things that the two of you would enjoy and leave room for you to talk.”
