Advertising Madness

Does anyone else ever find it strange that Starkist Tuna is not only represented but purveyed by Charlie the Tuna? As I sit here in a numb state of mind, watching my favorite Food Network show Good Eats, I just found it disturbing that a Tuna would be encouraging me to eat his own kind. I guess they don't say "Sorry Charlie" for nothing! I get the impression that back in the 50's it was normal for a food logo to be a cartoon image of the animal the food came from. I could imagine some cute little pig being on a hotdog package back then, but it seems dated now.

Yeah. It was just one of those things that struck me. I can imagine that it was rather catchy back them too to be rep'ed by a cute version of the animal from which the product was made. It still seemed so wrong to me :) Guess that's why I'm not in marketing!
